What exactly is the issue here with the play design? It got the best player the ball in space, allowed him to go to his strong side and get a clean look from a zone in which he's good in It was a quick, decisive play that did not waste any time/put the shooter in a bad spot

Don’t be like this player. So many players still don’t use boost efficiently, even though boost management is the most important skill in the game. A good guideline is to save boost for when you’re making a play on the ball and use your movement to get to the ball. Here is a player who uses all of his boost to chase the ball, and when he ends up low on boost, he keeps chasing anyway. This leads to him bumping his teammate and giving up an easy goal.

‼️ MUST ADD FOR PRACTICE ‼️ Olympic style 3x3 is quickly becoming one of the best 'SSGs' for overall development. It's really fast paced, and every possession is played with a ton of purpose. Players play with maximum spacing, build endurance WITH THE BALL and, if done properly, SHOT QUALITY is the games' biggest emphasis. In the Olympics 👇🏼 The analytics behind the actions they deploy are much different than standard 5 on 5, as well. Shooting 25% from 3 is the equivalent of 50% from 2 so there is a HEAVY emphasis on making and defending the 3. This means there is a ton of switching and coverage solutions/counters to switching defenses with NO TAG AT THE HOOP. The game translates BEAUTIFULLY to 5 on 5. 3x3 rules are a simple constraint to make and defend the 3 ball at a much higher level using '3 man' actions. IMO, a must add to our 5 on 5 teams. In the XFL: Instead of an onside kick, the trailing team can maintain possession with a 4th-and-15 play from its own 25-yard line. It just worked for the St. Louis BattleHawks. This was brought to NFL owners in the past but didn't get enough votes.

Look at the route distribution to the boundary and how they're just compressing the space of the 3 routes using 4 defenders playing with perfect depth and leverage maintenance. This is the essence of a Vic Fangio split safety coverage — play 4-over-3 to the side #3 releases to, distribute the dirty bunch using zone principles to keep all the routes caged in and just suffocate the concept.
