I don't think their is anything wrong with your normal smile personally but do what makes you happy

This misalignment can lead to erosion of your other teeth, cause speech impediments, create breathing difficulties, and result in problems with chewing and biting

Well that's fair, makes sense

For instance, I can't bite into things directly at all, I have to use the sides of my mouth. As an example , I could never really bite into an apple or eat corn on the cob due to the misalignment. The surgery will significantly improve my quality of more than just looks, but obviously, I am looking forward to not having a gummy smile, lol

Yeah so that's definitely important I understand why you would want to do that. The way you framed it seemed like you where doing it souly to change your smile, which everyone is free to do as they wish in that regard but personally I don't think people should get surgeries for looks. For health and quality of life though 100% that's important stuff.

I have similar issues, also I have a tongue-tie, hoping to get at least the tie fixed some day 😀

It doesn't necessarily mean you need surgery. Some people just have a gummy smile, that's it, but mine has to do with a jaw malocclusion, and that's why so much of my gum shows.
