There’s a battery in the base of the bulb, the positive and negative wires never complete the circuit until they touch the metal base of the magnet. The magnet’s metal base is the switch in the circuit. If the bolts had touched the circuit would have been completed. He magnet is useless in this case.

He forgot to tell us about the small lithium cell he previously installed in the plastic interior of the bulb & the reed switch that’s activated by the magnet. Oops did I use logic to explain that you can’t beat physics. There are some laws that it’s impossible to break.
