He also said he will sign an executive order Friday to impose a 10% global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows the president to impose a baseline tariff of up to 15% for no more than 150 days to deal with "large and serious" balance-of-payments deficits. The president also said he will initiate investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act to protect the country from unfair trading practices from foreign countries and companies. Mr. Trump has invoked that law to impose tariffs before.

State Minister Diana Gamage said that Sri Lanka has become a joke, adding that she is unable to understand what is happening to the country's citizens. [WATCH] THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT RESIGN. When it comes to the President, there is always a distinctive role between him being the President of the party and the state. There are many factors that influence the state in terms of governance and stability. If the President is called upon by some to resign and he keeps quiet it can throw the state into a state of turmoil. I want to make it clear that the officials agreed with the President on his approach, he took us into confidence and explained the factors that led him to make that particular pronouncement. We believe that the President did the right thing in pronouncing in the best interest of South Africa that he will not be resigning. There was nothing in terms of the judgment that warranted the President to resign it was just mere calls made by individuals and political parties that wanted to throw our country into a state of turmoil, uncertainty and anxiety. So it was imperative that he focus on that. It was correct for him to tell the country that from where he is standing there is nothing in the judgement that states he has done any wrongdoing and what he is going to do with the options in front of him and he has made this public. The President will take the Section 89 Report on review based on the outcome of the judgment and the legal advice he has received. There are no daggers out for the President to resign just opportunistic elements. These elements do not know what they want, they want to impeach and want him to resign, they do know what they actually want. The veracity of the report has not been tested in any committee so they don’t have a basis for the President to resign.

Therefore, it's a level of disgrace that our own employee, the representative of the government of South Africa help knobs with the criminals instead of doing his work off to ensure that the fugitives are brought back into South Africa, so that they can face that criminal effect. It is for that reason that the Minister of International Relations and Cooperations, Minister Lamola has not only requested for a report from the official, but has indicated that drastic steps would be taken to make sure that nobody undermines the laws of this country whilst representing this country, in terms of whether we, we, we track, we are aware that there are privileges extended to former state presidents, but government is entitled to review such privileges if they are abused to undermine the laws of this republic. This is not the first instance in relation to this particular state president that he undermines the not only the foreign policy of the country but also the loss of the country when he's supported by the country, but we do not have the itinerant of the former state presidents when they travel. Currently, the privileges are just gives us a request to fund their traveling and whatever, and that we are refuting those issues. Yes, indeed, this is lawlessness by any standard. Even by banana republic standards, this is still lawlessness. Your country has a constitution, it has a government, it has a police service, and it has a ruling party. I am sure you can see that some of the people there are actually wearing ruling party T-shirts. It is lawless regardless of whoever does it. It is an embarrassment to South Africa as a country, what you are doing and what you are encouraging people to do. Your country has an immigration service. If people are in your country illegally, they should be arrested and deported through lawful processes. You do not go around destroying property, tearing down markets, and attacking people. It is illegal regardless of whoever does it. It is not illegal because I have said so. It is illegal because the laws of your country make it so. This is vigilantism, pure and simple, and it is tainting the reputation of South Africa, not only across Africa but across the world. If you have got satellite television in your home, you can see that these actions are being reported everywhere. It is not good for your country. This kind of barbarism undermines the rule of law, fuels division, and damages South Africa’s standing as a constitutional democracy. It is the actions of a few that are tainting the reputation of many. The average South African is not mindless like this. They respect the law, and they respect the fact that among them, in their communities, there are people from other countries. If those people are in the country illegally, you report them and the law takes its course through proper processes of arrest and deportation. You do not descend into mob justice, lawlessness, and destruction. That is not who South Africans are, and it must not be normalised.
