Adam Wharton has only been given 30 mins yet he produced a type of passing performance that no other English midfielder has produced. Look how often he was able to take the ball under pressure, turn and progress play. He should not continue to be ignored.

Nearly all 2 touch, his ability to scan and hold a picture of what’s around him is right up there. Once he gets the ball then his weight and accuracy of pass is top drawer. Him behind Jude and Foden with Gordon and Saka out wide with chalk on their boots would be very affective.

Without being too hyperbolic, he alone would completely change the balance and setup of the entire England team. As, if not even more, important as Luke Shaw coming back in at LB. So of course Southgate refuses to pick him.

Also left footed, happy to drift out and cross the ball. Helps with no left footed left back. Even Guehi is right footed so having a left footer in midfield opens more passing channels
