Our ancestors fought barefoot, with sticks, and even with their bare hands. Boys became men, and our women stood shoulder to shoulder with the men in defense of our existence. We will never forget those who paved the way and paid the ultimate price for daring to be free as a people.

First we cried, listening to each other’s stories of loss and pain. Then we hugged. Then we laughed. Then we sang. And finally, we stood together and chanted against those who banned us from having a normal life.
