One of the biggest questions after Jurassic World (2015) is why the Mosasaurus ignored the Indominus Rex until the very end of the final battle. The explanation is simple: the Mosasaurus was an ambush predator. Throughout the film, it’s shown lurking beneath the surface and striking only when prey enters its hunting zone. During the feeding show, it bursts from the water to snatch a shark. The Indominus Rex, however, spent most of the battle on solid ground, far outside the Mosasaurus’ reach. Only when Blue and the T. rex forced the Indominus to the lagoon’s edge did it become vulnerable. As soon as the hybrid lost its footing and entered the water, the Mosasaurus attacked exactly as it always had—from below. It wasn’t trying to save the day or pick a side. It was simply an apex predator taking advantage of the perfect opportunity. The heroes may have won the battle, but the Mosasaurus got the final meal.

In Jurassic World, the Mosasaurus dragged the Indominus Rex underwater… but it was never shown eating it. Why? Fans have three theories: the Indominus’ frog DNA may have made it taste toxic, other creatures could have tried to steal the kill, or the Mosasaurus simply wasn’t hungry at all. The darkest possibility is that it attacked purely for the thrill of it—turning the final battle into a clash between two apex predators that both kill for sport.
