you could make arrow like this show when player pat (or press the mouse) and animate it moving left n right to indicate player need to drag and move the mouse not sure if this will be more helpful than the text but imo it more slick

Yeah, I may do something like this too since you only get the little headpat bonus stars if you pat left to right as well
