Late night on Friday can only mean one thing… working on the coedz for our port of Grand Theft Auto 3 to the Sega Dreamcast… Went a little crazy with my C++20 VMU infrastructure, which now supports “apps” you can swap between in-game, each supporting multiple horizontal pages with vertical scrolling… The main “app” will be the GTA3-specific in-game display for player information such as HP, cash, ammo, and stars, with upcoming UI work done by some of our VMU pixel art rock stars. The other VMU “app” you already know as the real-time profiler that shipped with our alpha release. I’ve been upgrading the shit out of it to track various metrics and counters such as number of cars, pedestrians, rigid bodies, and building entities. Also added scene stats for the number of atomics, meshes, skins, and effect matrices that are drawn in the current frame. Finally, the most important stuff will be a page showing the CPU utilization of all of our threads along with a frame breakdown of the time it takes to process each major subsystem (rendering, collision, AI, streaming assets, physics simulation, etc). This will help drive future performance work as we continue to fine-tune performance. Oh, and before you freak out claiming that this profiling itself must be adding a bunch of overhead, I rolled my own auto assembling intrusively linked list structure of static atomic counter values, which all get linked together upon program initialization and automatically added to a central singleton list of stats which the profiler can later iterate over and inspect from its own thread… Not one goddamn malloc or new call, the VMU thread itself is only awakening every 200ms to update the display, and has a low thread priority, plus I just downsized its default 32KB stack to only 5KB, paying for any static memory costs of storing these metrics by over tenfold…

Oh, and before you freak out claiming that this profiling itself must be adding a bunch of overhead, I rolled my own auto assembling intrusively linked list structure of static atomic counter values, which all get linked together upon program initialization and automatically added to a central singleton list of stats which the profiler can later iterate over and inspect from its own thread… Not one goddamn malloc or new call, the VMU thread itself is only awakening every 200ms to update the display, and has a low thread priority, plus I just downsized its default 32KB stack to only 5KB, paying for any static memory costs of storing these metrics by over tenfold…

✨ 7 years after I set up a Quake III server, I have it running again, but now in the web browser, much easier 😊 👉 👈 Back in 2019 we'd play a fork of Quake III called OpenArena in a Bali villa with Daniel Lockyer Marc Köhlbrugge @dannypostmaa Lenny Dos Santos 🚀 Guilherme Rizzo Andrey Azimov Sean and other ppl But it broke after a new Mac update and they never really fixed it, it kinda sucked because it was actually the only game we could just load with friends online and play death match a bit and then continue your day Luckily Luka built Q3JS which successfully compiles ioquake3 to WebAssembly and now it works in the browser To make it extra simple, I've set up a Q3JS server and frontend for you to use at which loads you straight into the game A big problem is that most of the times, nobody's playing, so I've also added Web Notifications, which notifies you if enough human players join, so you can join a match. And I've added a daily match at 8 PM GMT every day which everyone also gets notified when it starts If you want more servers and maps etc, you can check out Luka's own HAPPY FRAGGING

Origins of Dazed and Confused, Dazed and Confused mostly credited with Led Zeppelin's unique sound and approach but its story is not like what you might possibly think. It dates back to The Yardbirds era when Jimmy Page was a member of the band. “We were quite stale and stuck creatively” when Page joined, Yardbirds drummer Jim McCarty remembers today. “We were still playing really similar things as we had with Jeff Beck. We had very few new things and running a bit low on ideas of songs to cover or songs that we wanted to do.” Inspiration finally struck at that Village Theater show. Before his band’s set, McCarty stood at the side of the stage watching Holmes play. “Now and then you go up and you see who’s playing with you,” McCarty says. “Jake Holmes was playing with two other guys. They were playing sort of jazzy things. I thought the music was quite pleasant, but didn’t think much of it. Then all of a sudden they started to play this riff. And I thought, oh that’s a very good riff, very haunting, quite interesting.” The riff was Holmes’ new song “Dazed and Confused.” “The following day I went down and got his album at Bleecker Bob’s record store,” says McCarty. “I had a little record player on the road and I played it to Jimmy and the guys and then we said, we should work out a version.” The band agreed, mesmerized by that same guitar line. “The song had all the feeling of our old material,” McCarty says. “That descending riff is very haunting; it creates an atmosphere. That’s the sort of music we liked, music that’s a little bit dark.” The Yardbirds quickly added “Dazed and Confused” to their live shows and even performed it once on a French TV show. But, in one of music history’s great missed opportunities, they never recorded the song. Indeed, the Yardbirds’ cover of “Dazed and Confused” would likely be forgotten today had the band’s latest hotshot guitarist not remembered the song when he began putting together his next group. They were billed as “The New Yardbirds” on their first tour, but the name didn’t stick long. The quartet Jimmy Page formed with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham soon adopted their own moniker: Led Zeppelin. In those early days, though, “New Yardbirds” was not that far off as a description. The group had not yet found its own identity—the four guys barely even knew each other—and this was still very much Page’s show (notably, the press release announcing Led Zeppelin’s formation spends fourteen paragraphs on Page alone before even mentioning Plant, Jones, or Bonham). Ever the taskmaster, Page decided after only a few shows that the band should record an album. It is just an example to explain the process. ************* Imagine a robot (AMM) that's always ready to help you trade your money (assets) with others on a special online platform (the XRP Ledger's decentralised exchange). This robot doesn’t need to find someone else to take the other side of your trade; it just makes the trade happen using a big pot of money (pool) it manages. How Does it Work? Trading: You can swap one type of money (asset) for another anytime you want, using the robot’s pot of money. The robot uses a special formula to decide the swap rate. Creating a Pool: Anyone can create a new pot of money for two different types of assets if it doesn’t exist yet, or add to an existing one. Rewards for Pool Creators: People who add money to the pot (liquidity providers) get special tokens (LP Tokens) as a thank-you. These tokens can be used to: • Get a share of the money in the pot back, along with some extra (fees collected). • Have a say in changing the robot’s settings, like trading fees. • Bid to get a temporary discount on trading fees. Patch 0.12.3 - "Blades of Ezochi" is now released! Patch 0.12.3 is a minor update patch that includes 3 new classes, some rules updates and a lot of changes to classes. Earthcleaving and Searing Lotus style are two elemental style sword classes, one of which is an anti-tank and the other a tank. Another paladin has also been added with gun paladin. A lot of classes have seen some key abilities redesigned or changed. Some of these such as backlash were too easy to use and lacked counterplay, while other such as defensive flexibility were resourceless defenses that warped the game around having them or not having them. Some other less used abilities have gotten some number buffs to make them less clunky to use. For the basic rules, precise attacks now have pinpoint by default to make them a better option against dodgy targets who often would still have enough guard to negate most of the damage. Block now works against damage in general, giving more of a reason to take it over simply dodging everything and making failed save damage have some counterplay. As always, thank you for your support. Rules Precise attacks now gain Pinpoint. Some abilities do not gain it. Added a Push basic action. Block reaction now works vs damage in general and not just attacks. Updated rules for abilities to state all abilities as general rule require you to have line of sight to it. Races Ryujin Dragon Breath now has the Safe keyword. Classes NEW: Gun Paladin, a ranged support/striker hybrid. Earthcleaving Style, an anti-tank earth melee striker. Patch 0.12.3 - "Blades of Ezochi" is now released! Patch 0.12.3 is a minor update patch that includes 3 new classes, some rules updates and a lot of changes to classes. Earthcleaving and Searing Lotus style are two elemental style sword classes, one of which is an anti-tank and the other a tank. Another paladin has also been added with gun paladin. A lot of classes have seen some key abilities redesigned or changed. Some of these such as backlash were too easy to use and lacked counterplay, while other such as defensive flexibility were resourceless defenses that warped the game around having them or not having them. Some other less used abilities have gotten some number buffs to make them less clunky to use. For the basic rules, precise attacks now have pinpoint by default to make them a better option against dodgy targets who often would still have enough guard to negate most of the damage. Block now works against damage in general, giving more of a reason to take it over simply dodging everything and making failed save damage have some counterplay. As always, thank you for your support. Rules Precise attacks now gain Pinpoint. Some abilities do not gain it. Added a Push basic action. Block reaction now works vs damage in general and not just attacks. Updated rules for abilities to state all abilities as general rule require you to have line of sight to it. Bloodbinder Blood Drain now deals Dark damage. Now has the Safe keyword. Transfusion and Life sacrifice no longer trigger effects on yourself that would trigger from taking damage. Chronofighter Past Self slightly reworked Attacks from the past reworked Secret Art reworked and renamed. Chronomancer Haste mana cost increased from 1→2 and given the circuit keyword. Colossus Can now be accessed throguh adventurer. Two Sword Crush now has the Rage keyword. Double Slam now gives you the option to make only 1 attack even when wielding two 2 handed weapons. Mighty Leap range increased from 20→40ft. Culinarian Herbal Stock now keeps the bonus for the entire node. Curse Knight Backlash is now Offstep rather than Sure Hit Devil's Blow wording updated to prevent confusion on the full pierce. Cutthroat Can now be entered through Culinarian. Deadeye Disarming Shot mana cost reduced from 3→2. Death Knight Call of the Grave AP cost reduced from 3→2. Dragoon Can be Jiangshi instead of the jumping expertise now. Duelist Deflect Missiles renamed to Deflect Everything, now works vs all attacks. Electromancer Zap no longer gains Sure Hit against targets valid for your superconductor. Forked Lightning now applies Focus x 2 static. All electromancer abilities now scale their static of Focus instead of Power. Electromaster Static Field now scales static of Focus instead of Power. Exalted Blade Divine Storm clarified. Execavator Cave Raider now has the Circuit keyword. Executor Holy Orders now can only be used before you attack and the free movement only occurs if the target moves away from you while in your melee range. Mage Arcane Barrier now has to be in reaction to damage taken and no longer prevents true damage. Mycomancer Poison Spore damage reduced from Power + 5 → Power + 2. Necromancer Soulreap now also instantly kills the enemy on killing blow. Corpse Explosion now deals Dark damage. Pyromancer Incendiary Ray mana cost increased from 1→2. Now applies Burning on damage. Pyromaster Hellfire only applies when you inflict Burning on your own turn. Sage Lengthened Incantation capped to 2 additional AP, now applies to Scattering AoE attacks again. Can now be entered through Mage Knight. Selective Casting now has the Circuit keyword. Scout Can now be accessed through Rogue. Shield Paladin Holy Weapon light emitting part now also works on ranged weapons. Spearmaster Updated Gae Bolg wording. Spellblade Spellstrike wording updated. Sky Talon Style Heavenfall Descent now has the Rage keyword. Keywords Added an Opener keyword for abilities who must be used as the first action in a turn. New mods added for poison materials. New ghimslag armor mod. New mod for shields. Some cloaks now gain a higher benefit if made with a higher tier base material. Bags now gain a benefit from higher materials and have a mod. Carts now gain a benefit from higher materials. Shields no longer gain bonuses to evasion or guard from material, only to block/dodge. (Does not affect existing ones) Elemental Weapon Alloy crafting point costs reduced from 15→10. Dueling weapon ability no longer works if you make a Heavy attack with it using AP. Added a mod that regains the ability for 1 heavy. Scythes Reworked Long Haft. Added a Focused Spin B mod. Armor Anti-poison silver mod removed. Chain Links reduced from 8→4. Flexible armor values increased. Gourmet Cooking Stock old wording updated. Greenhouse labor cost fixed to be consistent with other values. Perfect Balance mod now also works with precise attacks.
