'Adlestrop' by Edward Thomas (Read by Richard Burton 🤌🏼✨️)

The railway sign is all that remains of the station, preserved, thankfully, and relocated to the bus shelter. A poignant sight if you pay a visit.

So moving. And reminded me of one of the most poignant stories I heard. Helen Thomas visiting Ivor Gurney who was confined to a mental hospital after WW1. They traced out walks on a map she brought

I was introduced to this by an English teacher, on a warm summer day in a stuffy classroom. Still remember both it and him - thank you Mr Lewis 🙏🏻

Wonderful poem and a wonderful voice reading - they don't make them like that anymore! The days when 'The Queen's English ' had to be spoken in any broadcast.

Love this poem. As a young girl I went to Adlestrop. There were no longer any trains, but everything else was just as Edward Thomas wrote.

A beautiful poem. Within 2 (I think) years, Thomas was dead, killed on the front-line in WW1 France.
