The railway sign is all that remains of the station, preserved, thankfully, and relocated to the bus shelter. A poignant sight if you pay a visit.

So moving. And reminded me of one of the most poignant stories I heard. Helen Thomas visiting Ivor Gurney who was confined to a mental hospital after WW1. They traced out walks on a map she brought

I was introduced to this by an English teacher, on a warm summer day in a stuffy classroom. Still remember both it and him - thank you Mr Lewis 🙏🏻

One of my favourite poems (along with ‘Walking Away,’ by Cecil Day Lewis) both evoke a deep sense of poignancy. Exquisite.

That is so spooky. This was the poem in my “A Poem for Every Night of the Year” book last night. I’d listen to anything read by Richard Burton ❤️

An almost perfect voicing of this poem and its era. Beautiful. Burton gave so much to poetry!

Wonderful poem and a wonderful voice reading - they don't make them like that anymore! The days when 'The Queen's English ' had to be spoken in any broadcast.

Love this poem. As a young girl I went to Adlestrop. There were no longer any trains, but everything else was just as Edward Thomas wrote.

That the poem that came to mind when I was gazing at the heat haze laying over the fields

I adore this poem. I think about it probably once a week or so. Am planning a painting inspired by it.

@AmandaPCraig One of my favourite poems - along with Charles Causley’s Eden Rock.

Why does no one speak so beautifully any more?

Love this poem. Reminded of it a few weeks ago when we drove past Adlestrop en route to Tewkesbury. Although the railway doesn’t work anymore, still a delightful approach.

A beautiful poem. Within 2 (I think) years, Thomas was dead, killed on the front-line in WW1 France.

I could listen to Burton read even a phone book all day, but this is especially lovely. Thanks for sharing.
