Even though the Elves coming to help at Helm’s Deep wasn’t in the book, it was such a great choice by Peter Jackson. It gave the battle an extra emotional weight, and honestly, everyone loves seeing the Elves show up.

In the books, the Elves never arrived at the battle. Director Peter Jackson added them to show that the war threatened all of Middle-earth and to visually represent the alliance of Elves and Men. It also brought the Elves, who in the books fight Sauron in separate battles, into the film’s main storyline, while raising the emotional stakes of the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
