The key word…..accountability. It’s lost right now in many levels.

OMG, you just became my best friend! I can’t believe you’re 51, you look 25. You are absolutely beautiful but more importantly, you have figured it out. I’m 76 and your wisdom at 51, amazes me. You are 100% correct on every issue. Please stay on line, please keep trying to teach our young adults. But, please keep trying to teach these idiot parents. Love, love, love you.🥰

I love your videos… my 15 year-old is the most maturest well-rounded smartest kid at this stage in his life he can cook do laundry clean the house. We discussed all these things that you’ve talked about and with deer in headlight eyeballs totally straight faced told me Mom I’m never leaving you. I’m fine right where I’m at. 🤣

Yup! That is how adulting works. You figure it out.

I agree with this so much! It’s not mean we are raising them to be human adults

Kids are not learning how to make choices… choices then have either a good or bad consequence. That’s how they learn.

I love this! You are spot on. Thanks for sanity on the internet.

I would say this is equatable to approx. 60% of 26 and under. Maybe less TikTok and more time planning.

Really??? I’ve seen her post shared a couple times on X and overwhelmingly the comment sections have been supportive of the mother. I would’ve never had said that to my mom, no matter how awful she could be at times bc I was also smart and recognized the ways that she helped me in doing all the things I did and my seriously insane schedules amongst extracurriculars, organizations, honors diploma, lifted classes and working. I couldn’t have done all of that without her and my father supporting me and taking care of the essentials/basics so I could reach for the most and the extras. I think we’re doing a good job of balancing teaching our kids to be independent increasingly as they grow up and also not to speak to us disrespectfully and being unappreciative for the things we do for them. The lack of teaching them independence, respect and appreciation leads to a grave sense of entitlement and helplessness.

That's it. Now that is even a hard expectation ... How did we get here ??

My parents and my daughter said I was a bad mom because at 12 I taught her to do her own laundry. My child now has a very good career and she bought her own house. Im ok with being a bad mom. 🤷♀️

@ThatLibBitch I’m a single mom with ADD. I’m so grateful I’m at the time where I can say to my teenager “figure it out” and not feel guilty. 🤣

My daughter (20) left for a spring break in Slovenia&Croatia. Landed in Slovenia with massive tooth pain That Saturday of Easter weekend found a dentist, and got an emergency root canal. Called me 24 hours later and told me like it was a footnote to her trip. She is adulting l

@H0rsinAr0und I’m not even finished watching. hub used to have a stepchild that he raised from about age 1-grade 6. Whenever matthew asked a ? my hub said figure it out. That kid, is grown w/a fam of his own. He grad. from sarah lawrence & columbia univ. He is a published author.

Single mom here. My 3 boys knew how to cook, do laundry and get themselves out of bed for me yo get them to school by 7th grade

Your child is always your baby, no matter how old they are, but….. at some point you really do have to let them sort out the world on their own. I prepared my son for university life, taught him to cook, clean, work out budgeting but always to know I’m here if needed.

She's being a good parent. If the daughter knows it "all" then the failures she encounters are teaching lessons. I avoided many pitfalls because I listened to the adults around me for as a young teen. Many stories they told, I encountered in later life. It pays to listen.

💯Preach that word❤️❤️❤️

If you are learning to adult as a near adult, you are adulting wrong. This should have started when she was 12 or 13. For example as a male my mother made me do all of the laundry sometimes, including her underware or dads oil stained shirts so I would know how to wen I...

I remember being 20 and living in my first apartment. It was summer in California and SO HOT. Anyhow, I get this weird letter in the mail from this company called “Pacific Gas and Electric” telling me I owed them $96. What? Mom explained that you have to PAY for A/C. 20 yrs old!!

Oh my gosh, thank you for saying this. I am a middle school teacher (20 years) and we are seeing less and less resilience in children. Parents need to stop fixing all of their problems and sitting them on a device. It’s going to cause big problems in our society. ❤️

@BobInPascoFl MOM was right! There’s NOT ENOUGH OF THIS! I do this to my husband now.

Yay Jo! We gave our guy responsibility and freedom during high school. He still flunked out of ASU. He really wanted to be back in Tempe but no $ from us! He found a full time job and has an apartment. He moved away from IL on Tuesday and job starts today. Sink or swim.

I moved out at 16 and got myself emancipated. Way different story. I worked in education for 20+ years and agree that there is no accountability anymore. Big fan of Figure It Out. I work in finance now and I have advisors who cannot follow directions or procedures. Learn NOW

Go look at all her posts on all platforms and you will see she has never been her kids friend but a parent & always been pretty hard on her children, I have watch this person from the very beginning I think it has been over 12 years, You go Meredith great parenting job.

I, too, have found myself on this very side of TikTok of late and have seen that video. The mom is completely right. Better late than never after all 🤷♀️🙌💙

@JemmsCee2 Hope you feel better soon with whatever has your voice scratchy. Stuff going around, like Covld. Please protect others around you 🙏🏻, and I hope you feel better soon.

That was one of the great Plusses back when 12-14 y.o.s were 'allowed' to get jobs. Independence. Responsibility. Confidence. Learn as they Grow instead of being thrown out into the world at 18 with None of those Skills.

My kids were doing their own laundry at 12/13 yrs old. When they started dictating to me how they wanted their laundry done, that was it. Meeting, laundry room now! They are both very self sufficient today.

Where were you 15 years ago hun? I needed this lesson back then 😉

💯 when my kids went to college they were prepared to take care of themselves i can't tell you how many students at college couldn't take care of themselves, clean! Or even cook! I raised my kids to be functioning adults and contribute to society

Failure is the best teacher. Yep 💕

They’d 💯% lose their minds if they were forced to grow up like GEN ❌ did! That generation HAD to figure it out, but they also grew up without “smart” phones, and they didn’t have nearly as much access to the internet!

I'm in the same situation. I wanted to teach/show they how it works aka life. All it did was make him dependent to the point where while I've shown him a bazillion times, he still says, I dont know how. I'm done. My mantra is Figure It Out!

I always told my kids and grandkids that I may not be as smart as you are, but I’m a lot wiser. You will never be as wise as me, but you will get wiser. Wisdom comes with age.
