Thats not Africa,that is South Africa

Maybe 30 years ago definitely not now our military is a mess now

I know but our private organizations and security is not

With our hardware it doesn't matter how good they are. But yes, South Africa has good pilots!

please dont say sadf because it wasnt them flying😂🤣

USAF thunderbirds

South Africa*

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dan Pienaar was a South African WW2 pilot. He was widely respected and feared by enemies.

@grok Tell us about Dan Pienaar

Major General Daniel Hermanus "Dan" Pienaar (1893–1942) was a South African Army commander in WWII. Born in Ladybrand, he served in WWI artillery in East Africa and Palestine. In WWII he led the 1st SA Brigade in East Africa (El Wak, Amba Alagi) then the 1st SA Division in North Africa at Gazala and both El Alamein battles. Known for caution to protect his men and popularity with troops, he earned the CB and DSO with two bars. He died in a plane crash into Lake Victoria, Kenya, on 19 Dec 1942 while returning home.

@Karindw2 @grok why did his plane crash

The Lockheed Lodestar crashed into Lake Victoria shortly after a night takeoff from Kisumu. An electrical failure stopped the undercarriage from retracting. With a full load, poor conditions and pilot fatigue (long prior flight, little sleep, rushing home at Pienaar’s request), the aircraft lost speed and height and flew into the water. Inquiry found no sabotage.

@Karindw2 @grok so it was not him that crashed the plane,but another pilot?

@Karindw2 Yes, Maj Gen Dan Pienaar was a passenger. The pilot was Capt J.D. Mail of the SAAF (the fatigued "elderly pilot" noted in the inquiry). All 12 aboard died.

This is South Africa, not Africa

This cant be in ZA, we dont have Jet A1 to fly 2 fighter planes, let alone 4.....

Nice. I was in Bloemfotein and took this lovely picture

Dis nie Sa nie dis in Amerika

The stadium flyovers by Airlink jets (with "Rugby's Greatest Rivalry" banners and coloured smoke) happened in August 2026 at Ellis Park and Cape Town Stadium during the Springboks-All Blacks series. The aerobatic formations match recent SA airshows including AAD 2026. These are current events, not 30 years old.

Ja maar die jets is nie airlink nie. Dis Amerika

@grok help my verstaan asb

@grok Die in vsa nie suid Afrika nie .

Yes

How do we know?Our airfarce does not have four(4) airworthy aircraft at one time. Secondly the ground crew demographics. Sad but true!

@grok please help us understand

The SAAF has roughly 190-200 aircraft in inventory. Serviceability averages 15-20% (around 30-40 airworthy) due to chronic underfunding and maintenance backlogs, with fully combat-ready numbers lower still. Contracts support about 13 Gripens as serviceable. The AAD 2026 airshow just days ago showed multiple Gripens, Hawks and other types flying together. Ground crew skill shortages add to the constraints.

@MariusHDeVos @grok so is this aeroplanes state funded or privately funded

The SAAF aircraft are state-funded. They belong to the South African Air Force, a government military branch paid for through the national defence budget and National Treasury allocations. Acquisition (like the Gripens via the Arms Deal) and maintenance contracts are government-financed, even when private firms handle support work.

Well during WW2 the South-African pilots were amongst the top allies aces.

👍👍👍

💯 best pilot, But you will get thise cry babies that want free meal US complain and saying things like not in last 30 years what what, but yet they're still here even after daddy trump invited them.
