This is where I have to share my raw feelings about Rivian software currently on R1. The software experience they have created is good. It’s their own, with their software stack that they control. With that said, we have to stop making excuses for longstanding bugs. Like Quinn Nelson had posted about long ago, having to do multiple Resets, logins and out to get core functionality to work is not the experience we should be having. I know Rivian and Wassym do not want this. I also know they are working on R2 stuff as well. As a person who has spent real money on 4 Rivian’s with 3 R2 reservation between me and hubby, we are huge fans. Have helped many become Rivian owners as well. But the long outstanding bugs are starting to boil over. It’s dragging the software reliability down. Apple Music has been in Rivian vehicles for just about 2 years now. We are past the stage of it being “new”. Spatial Audio is a key music feature, and for me, and plenty of others, you have to turn that off sometimes just to get music to play. I shouldn’t have to do that. Plus, you can’t change that feature while the vehicle is in drive. So then you have to pull over and fiddle with it just to get it work and sometimes it doesn’t. Rivian assistant can’t do it either. Among other issues, like HVAC preconditioning, unstable cabin temps, GPS locking issues, profile switching not getting right or switching profile after the driver has gotten in, mobile app live activities not functioning properly, and more. The live activities is important, because we don’t have a notification for charging start stop/complete except for charging complete on DCFC, so on a level 2 charger, I don’t know if there is an issue with charging if the live activities don’t appear. Same for HVAC if it’s not showing up I have to keep opening the app to check to see what the temperature is. If you aren’t going to push me a notification that the cabin is at the temp I selected in favor of the live activities, then the live activities has to work. I could go on, but I really love my Rivian. I love the brand, I love what they want to do. And I think R2 is going to change the market for most things, but I want their focus to be on software and stability. Focus on polish, focus on features that many people want, don’t over complicate those things. Example, valet mode should be here by now that locks down speed acceleration and access to certain parts of the vehicle. Basic Pin to drive, not the multi factors drive one that depends on your phone and vehicle having an internet connection. Speedy, clean, stable software is always a win. I know Wassym Bensaid and plenty of others at Rivian can do this. We have seen it before and seen what they can do. The YouTube app is by far the best app they have added. I haven’t had any issues with it. It’s responsive, and works. Everything needs to work like that across the board. Please guy let me help in anyway I can, I just want the best for you and the community and customers. Let’s focus on that. I know some will see this as a complete complaining post but it’s not. It’s a plead to make the experience better for everyone and making the Rivian software the best software it can be.

I coded a Speech-to-Text model from scratch. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞: No APIs. No pre-trained models. Just PyTorch, an A100 GPU, and hours of debugging. This started months ago. I wanted to understand how machines hear. Not surface-level understanding. I wanted to build the whole thing myself. So I built it piece by piece: autoencoders, VAEs, VQ-VAEs, Residual Vector Quantization, and CTC loss. Each one took days to get right. Trained for 3 hours on 13,100 audio clips. Got complete garbage. Changed the tokenizer from BPE to character-level. Rechecked everything. Asked AVB who built STT models before. His answer: these models are tricky to train and need days of compute, not hours. Cut the dataset to 200 clips. After 2 hours, actual words appeared. Overfitted? Absolutely. But watching noise turn into recognizable English was satisfying. jnmartin and I just spent the last 12 hours straight locked into an epic tag-team, binge-coding session. We've decided to return to perfect our port of Mario Kart 64 to the Sega Dreamcast, bringing with us all of the skills, knowledge, and tools at our disposal that we gained from every port we've been involved with since we originally released MK64 DC to the public. 1) jnmartin has just completely redone the audio synthesis and mixing code. It was originally emulating the Nintendo 64's RSP in software, on our CPU, and wound up being a total resource hog, despite us going to hell and back again, substantially boosting its performance by vectorizing it with our SH4 SIMD instructions. 2) Now that the audio is actually offloaded to the AICA, we can leverage its DSP to put back in effects such as reverb and echo that we simply didn't have the CPU budget to implement before... so the overall audio quality of the port will be SIGNIFICANTLY improved. 3) jnmartin has been working on many small bugfixes, such as the near-Z clipping edge-cases that would cause corrupted triangles to draw over the players' screens sometimes in 3 and 4 player modes. 4) jnmartin just kicked GLdc--our OpenGL 1.1 driver, built atop of KallistiOS--to the curb and has instead implemented a bare-metal renderer that raw-dogs KOS's lowest-level PVR GPU driver directly, giving us more control and better performance within the renderer. 4) I just implemented support for playing with the Sega Dreamcast keyboard peripheral as a controller, partially as a flex, and partially because jnmartin kept complaining that he only had 3 controllers for testing... 🤣 4) I have taken my entire accelerated math and linear algebra library, SH4ZAM--which was born just after this port was originally released--back with me this time and am optimizing every freaking thing I can get my hands on with it. Every matrix multiplication, vector transform, memcpy-call, and scalar or trig routine is getting swapped out for the corresponding hand-optimized, meticulously benchmarked, and rigorously unit-tested equivalent within SH4ZAM, which now ships as part of kos-ports. As you can see from this series of direct hardware captures, overlaid with the terminal window which was capturing the FPS logging reports from my actual Sega Dreamcast, the performance is now SIGNIFICANTLY better than it was previously, and it already ran on-par or slightly better than the N64 original under most circumstances! Sooo many GAINZ to be had! 💪

(TL;DR warning again) 41 years ago this month my local UHF channel began airing a kids cartoon unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Half-hour installments. Amazing animation which seemed a cut above most early 80s American childrens TV to that point. And the scripting was of a decidedly more adult nature than either Voltron or G.I. Joe. It only took one episode to suck me in. Because of the airplanes turning into robots, of course. It was the era of Optimus Prime duking it out with Megatron. Every American boy in 1985 adored both Transformers and GoBots. But these giant swing-wing "veritechs" were piloted by men. Against enormous aliens who were decidedly different from any I'd seen in any science fiction TV show before. And one episode's plot bled into another. These weren't capsule stories. The entire thing was one big story. Which I avidly tuned in to before school day after day. The war against the Zentraedi segued to the war against the Robotech Masters, which segued to the war with the Invid. I had no idea at the time I was seeing an Americanized kitbash of three distinct Japanese shows. It was all just extraordinary to me, and I never noticed the seams which had been papered over by American writers. There aren't many sci-fi franchises which have had an impact on me like ROBOTECH. Not even STAR WARS. The only sci-fi show which has a larger presence in my mental landscape is STAR TREK. And I not only owned the entirety of ROBOTECH on VHS—grainy TV tapes at first, then store-bought official copies after—I played the Palladium role-playing game with my H.S. friends. The remastered DVD sets which emerged 20 years ago never sat right with me because the sound effects got re-done. And it wasn't until I was on deployment trying to watch ripped .mp4 of the remasters that I realized just how badly those re-done sound effects jagged on my ear. I still remembered *all* the broadcast effects as they had been. And I wanted them back. Amazon briefly had rights to and streamed an "original broadcast" edition of ROBOTECH which kept the old effects. But this was license short-lived. And I ended up buying a *second* set of DVDs in the vain hope of getting a broadcast-true edition in hard media. Except, that set also ended up being the remastered sound effects. What to do? I kept hearing about "legacy" copies from turn of the century. After VHS, but before the remasters. This week I finally located a full 14-disc set of the "legacy" DVDs which supposedly are closest to broadcast. After ripping them to .mkv it seems true. I finally have digital hard media of the actual ROBOTECH I remember from my youth. 🤓

I went to a Church yesterday... This Dussehra, I was in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. After a bit of pandal and jhanki hopping, I came across a church in the railway colony area. Out of curiosity, I decided to step inside; it was around 6:30 in the evening. As I entered, the first thing I noticed was that slippers had been left outside, just like in Hindu temples. Inside, many people were already seated on the benches. I joined them. Among the women present, some had visible sindoor on their foreheads, while others had none. They, in turn, looked at me with equal curiosity, probably because of the tilak on mine. I expected to see someone on the dais delivering sermons from the Bible, but instead, an audio recording was being played, very much like bhajans are played in temple. A man sat at the console, controlling the playback. As the audio filled the hall, the women began reacting in striking ways. Many raised their hands skyward, some started sobbing, others were chanting fervently, and a few behaved as if they were possessed. I noticed a direct connection between the pace of the audio and their reactions, when the tempo increased, the women in the front rows shook violently, and when it slowed, they calmed down, almost as if under someone’s control. How they were able to mobilise people without even being there is beyond belief, I have never seen Hindus even chanting Hanuman Chalisa dedicatedly, even if someone is standing and requesting them to. The atmosphere was growing more awkward by the minute. I felt uneasy sitting there. On the desk in front of me lay a schedule, which I skimmed through before deciding to walk out after a few more minutes. Having reported extensively on missionary conversions and church activities, I had always heard accounts but wanted to see for myself what happens at such prayer meetings. In Pilibhit, a Sikh man had told me: “They play music, we dance, and for a moment we forget everything. It is in that moment they make us chant ‘Yesu’.” Similar stories had surfaced during my coverage in Jharkhand, where many who had reverted back to Sanatan described how the Church stripped away joy from their lives. They said Hindu women were made to appear like widows, cut off from festivities and simple pleasures, as if life itself had lost its charm. And sitting inside that Bilaspur church, even for those few minutes, I could feel exactly what they meant. On the surface, it may seem simple that one could just meet these people, convince them that the missionaries are deceitful, and they would walk away. But today, as I sat there and watched them surrender themselves so completely, it shook me. My Thoughts on R2 after my time with it! Short review! First, Rivian completely nailed this thing. I love the positioning of the driver seats. That long front nose gives a nice commanding feel. They will sell each and every one of these! Driving impression/suspension: 9/10 I felt the vehicle has good build quality. It felt *tight* and secure. Power delivery was smooth and crisp in all-purpose. Sport mode fella unlocked and ready for all the fun things. Power is rapid and consistent with a full power moment around 35-40mph, all the power is there. There is a good amount of nose rise during a hard acceleration. But I do feel the suspension was working well to control this. Remember this isn’t an air suspension. It’s a coil suspension. There is a difference between the suspension setting soft was SOFT. Firm was stiff but not overly stiff. It didn’t have that bouncing effect that some vehicles can have when going into firm suspension. Moderate was a good balance. I wish it could be more adaptive in moderate but it’s very very good. Turn in was good, and the turning radius was excellent. Switching from D to R for a 3-point turn was smooth and quick, no jerkiness. Very good control over entrance to parking lots. Stable. Lastly, it feels like the small delay some R1 have in throttle is gone with R2. Software: 8/10 This is where you guys know I am hard on them on. Because I want the best they can give. Rivian OS2.0 is a HUGE upgrade over R1. In all cases. Responsiveness, touch input, speed, app switching, keyboard responsiveness, etc., it is a huge difference. I love the new “fish stick” bar. And settings being available with one tap and being app-dependent first is fantastic. Well done Wassym Bensaid, the halo are great. The only thing about them is while driving, it’s hard to get a direct click, especially when trying to use it to switch drive modes where you have to push towards you. The halo likes the spin/move, but I think I just need to get used to it. Living with it would for sure help with that. I’m really hoping they fully unlock customization for them. You can end up with 8 different characters you could adjust. I really like having the driver display. But driving with it, you can notice how much smaller it is compared to R1. It’s no deal breaker, but it’s noticeable. Cameras felt snapper and of higher quality over Gen 2 R1. The turn signal sounds is new I like it as well as the forward and Evers noise it makes. Think Tesla sound when shifting. Audio: Now I’ve experienced R2 3x now. With 2 times with audio. The audio was significantly better than when I got to sit it in, in Miami for a block party. It’s about as good as R1 is now. There did feel like a sub was there. That’s great. I used my Apple Music account so I could listen to the song I love. And it was great. Not perfect but good enough. Long as it’s comparable to R1, it’s okay. Cabin: It was very well appointed. I actually found it sufficiently quiet. 🤫 I think for sure it’s quieter than my R1T without question. The HVAC system design (air vent) I like better than R1. I feel like the HVAC system now can blow the air on better than trying to. I need more time to test preconditioning because that’s where I’ve seen most of the issues with my R1 vehicles. Tons of space, easy to drop the seats, it’s flat, and nice under-floor space. The 1-touch drop for all windows was excellent. Overall: I think this is the Rivian everyone has been waiting for. This will be a fantastic one-car solution for so many families. There is storage for days, off-road abilities a Model Y can’t even think of doing, but the UHF needs to improve quicker than it currently is because that is really becoming a buying decision for people. Tim and I can’t wait to take delivery of our R2 Rivian; we are ready! Feel free to ask me anything about the R2! I’ll do my best to answer it or get you the answer. It’s a 10/10 for so many people.

I have a story about addiction from a different perspective. A story where recovery was not possible. I have one sibling. An older brother. Everyone loved him. It was easy to love him. He died 10 years ago. It was a horrible death that took him 20 years to accomplish, dragging everyone who loved him along the way. He was an amazing musician. He didn't read music. No lessons. Hand him any instrument, and he can play it. He had a big heart. He was easily the funniest person I've ever known. And he is the only other human being who speaks fluent movie-script-quotes with precision and skill. But alcohol took over in his mid-20s. Bam Margera is just 2 years younger than my brother. He reminds me of my brother *so* much. Everything Bam and his family went through with his addiction is what my brother and family went through. My brother left high school because he was a gifted songwriter and musician. Bam left because he was a gifted skater. My brother was really into editing and producing films, and so is Bam. When Ryan Dunn died, and Bam went off the deep end, I was watching my brother do the same thing every time a strong emotion hit him, and he simply didn't know what to do with it. My brother was so beautiful on the outside, yet unrecognizable at the end. I can not tell you how many times my brother would go missing. Hundreds of times. He would sometimes go missing for up to a week. Then we'd get a call from the police or a hospital. Usually, the hospital would be first because he'd be near death. Then they would keep him on a 5150 at a mental health facility. Then he would come home. One time, he chased me with a knife in his hand, screaming he was going to kill me as I was running out of my parents' home on a cordless phone dialing 911. I found a fifth of vodka in his room and poured it down the drain. He went looking for it 20 minutes later, and it was empty...and I told him I poured it out. When I was 24 years old, I landed my first job that came with an office. My name was outside of it. I was stoked. I worked my ass off to get there. But there was no happiness at that time in my life. I remember my father calling me at work, sitting in that office, to say he was coming to pick me up because he knew where my brother, who had been missing for 4 days, was. The credit card he stole from my mother showed he was at a little oceanfront motel 10 minutes away. And I remember thinking to myself on the way over there...I have to open the motel room door. I can't let my dad see him hanging. It will destroy his life. I told my dad to wait about 10 feet to my left, and I opened the door, and there was my brother fashioning a sheet into a noose. Another time he went missing, and they found him on the roof of a building with the inside of his arms slashed from elbow to wrist, just lying in a pool of blood. Dark shit. Both of the insides of his arms were mutilated from being sliced open so many times. At least 30, if not more. He stopped wearing short-sleeved shirts in public about 10 years before he died. He got to the point of seizures when he withdrew and had alcohol-related dementia for the last 3 years of his life, which would come and go. Then one day, after 2 decades, he called my parents and said something was wrong. My parents went over to his place, ended up calling 911, the ambulance got there, and he started walking outside with assistance from paramedics and collapsed. In front of my parents. He was rushed to the hospital. I had not seen my brother for the last 9 years of his life. He disowned me. Because he felt he had to. He killed my dog when he got drunk 9 years before he died. No one knows if he meant to or not, he was so wasted. He couldn't face me after that. So he disowned me. And a piece of my heart died the day he did it. I talked to my parents right before they left to see what was wrong that day. The last thing I said to my dad was, "Do not let him die without me having an opportunity to say goodbye." My dad called me from the er 2 hours later and said, "You should come over now. He won't know you're here." When I got there, I was shocked at what I saw. He wasn't the right color. He was in a coma. Severe internal bleeding. On life support. It was jarring even after seeing him in a much similar state hundreds of times for such a long time. He was taken to the ICU 3 hours later, where they would transfuse blood by the bag damn near constantly, and it just shot out of his nose. It was bloody. A lot of blood. After about 6 hours, I told my parents to go home and get some rest. I would stay with him. And I talked to him like he was right there. Like one of the hundreds of pillow-fort slumber parties we had as kids. Like no time had passed, and his addiction never existed. I showed him pictures of my life over the past decade on my phone...just like he was there. But he wasn't there. And after 3 hours and extensive talks with several doctors and specialists, I had to make the decision to remove his life support. After my parents returned and said goodbye, I told them to wait out in the hall until he passed because I could not allow them to have the memory of him dying, and I returned to my brother's side, and said what I needed to say, bawling my heart out. I told them to turn off the machines, and I held him in my arms as he died. It took just over 7 minutes. And I just held him. I had Nine Inch Nails playing for him. One of his favorites thanks to Pretty Hate Machine. He was a fan for life after that. He was my best friend. But he was also someone I had to protect myself from if he was intoxicated. This is the end that usually becomes a reality for addicts and their families. Then there's someone like Bam Margera. He went to the same place my brother went to in his head. And he came back. Bam is one of the greatest comebacks ever and a story of recovery worth knowing. I see YouTube shorts of Bam skating again every day, and I'm so moved that I just sit here and cry. You can see his personality is back. You have no idea how rare that is. Their personality shows very little while they're in their addiction. Recovery stories are incredibly personal to so many people, including those who have gone through addiction with an addict because they love them so much...they'd see anything they had to see and endure anything they have to endure just to be there with them at their lowest point. Addicts are not monsters. The stuff they use to numb the pain they do not understand is the real monster. And when you put enough of that into a human being, they do things they would *never* do without it. People are not pure. We are more complex than that. We are good and bad. Light and dark. Right and wrong. Chaotic and serene. You will find that the answer to every question you have about life is usually "both" for a reason. Because one can not exist without the other. With recovery stories like Hunter Biden's and Bam Margera's out in the ether, more people will be less ignorant as to how this disease plays out, and that will do nothing but good for so many families struggling with this issue. Addiction isn't just for the addict. Addiction is for everyone who loves them, as well. It's just a different perspective of hell. So listen to recovery stories with renewed respect because most addicts end up the way it ended for the only sibling I'll ever have.

Tested FSD v12.3 in downtown Chicago yesterday — zero disengagements / interventions in the first 30 minutes despite incredibly dense traffic & pedestrians during St. Patrick's Day festivities. Extremely impressive. A couple of my favorite moments are at 5:17 and 7:00. Overall, v12.3 seems like a major step forward and I'm excited to keep testing. It feels smoother, much more natural, and more capable of creative decision making in challenging scenarios. My camera overheated, but I tested for a total of about an hour and a half in this same environment. The most impressive moments were lost, unfortunately, but it flawlessly handled back-to-back extremely complex intersections, which were all-way stop signs with 6 lanes of traffic and 50+ pedestrians. Pretty mind-blowing. Throughout the whole drive, there were 3 disengagements and no other interventions: 1) Tried to turn one block too early, the wrong way on a one-way. Not great, but not a show stopper long-term, IMO. 2) At an intersection, shortly after the light changed to green, there was a fire truck with its sirens on approaching on the cross street. Visibility was obscured by a large SUV in the lane to the left of the vehicle. I head the sirens getting louder and the SUV stopped proceeding, so I had to brake. Without audio input, I don't know how FSD could ever properly react to this situation due to the occluded vision. 3) In heavy traffic, FSD moved out of the lane we needed to be in. It tried to get back over, but there was not enough time or space, so it proceeding to a new route. This led to a planned u-turn in extremely heavy traffic. I got a notice saying FSD could not complete the maneuver, and FSD kept going to the next intersection, which led to the same plan. It attempted to start the maneuver, but I had to take over. The video shows how crazy Chicago was yesterday, St. Patrick's Day celebrations are huge here. If you are not used to this environment, many drivers would struggle. FSD handled things calmly and confidently, with only one instance that I recall annoying any other drivers due to being too slow or cautious, something that would happen a lot on previous versions of FSD. FSD v12.3 seems like a major step forward from my early testing, and hopefully it provides the proper foundation to accelerate the rate of progress significantly. It's not perfect, and it's still going to take time, but I am excited. Congrats to the Tesla team.

Since Nashville is totally a country music city, let’s turn that on. I’m not that tired. Dubstep. (laughs) I talked about it during the show too. Actually, at first, I didn’t plan to make a different intro set for each concert. (Someone knocks at his door.) Yes~~ At first, that wasn’t the plan. Oh? Wait, it didn’t work. Hold on a second. (He goes to open the door.) I had something to take care of. Okay, done. Anyway, yes. So, I didn’t intend to do a different intro set each time, but during the Seoul concert I made two. Originally, I planned to use just those for the Seoul show, so I made three in total. I thought of rotating them a bit, but after trying two of them, I wasn’t satisfied with one, so I kept making more. That’s how I ended up with three. Then I adjusted them for Atlanta, and when I went to New York, I felt like the one I’d prepared might not spread as well in a stadium, so I created a new one just for stadiums. Since it was completely different, the vibe felt different between stadiums and arenas. Then before going to Baltimore, I looked into it a bit and found out Baltimore has its own famous genre called Baltimore Club or Clubhouse. I also learned that Jersey Club kind of evolved from Baltimore Clubhouse. I really love that kind of historical music background, so while studying it, I thought, “Should I try Baltimore Clubhouse?” I think I had that thought in Atlanta. Then after the New York show ended - after send-off - a fan told me they wanted to hear dubstep in Baltimore. Honestly, it’s not that I can’t do it. Since I’m constantly making new sets anyway, I figured I could definitely pull it off. So I thought I might as well try, and I created a set that starts with Baltimore Clubhouse and transitions into dubstep. It was fun. Now that we’re in Nashville, I thought that maybe today or tomorrow, if I get bored, I might come up with some intro that fits Nashville too. But I’m not sure yet. Sometimes I bring back things that got a good reaction before, but for now, I’m making intros that reflect the unique vibe of each city, and that process itself has been a really great experience for me. It’s fun, too. So that’s where I’m at now. It’s not necessarily difficult, but as the number of sets increases, it becomes a bit limiting. Some of you may have noticed, but each member has their own solo song, and I perform a solo song too. During my solo stage, all the sound bypasses the usual PA system and comes directly from my own DJ setup. So if there’s any mistake or issue with my DJ gear, the sound just cuts out completely. It’s a pretty bold risk to take. Since I have full control over the stage in Part 3 of the concert, I was really worried at first. When I talked to the Pro Tools engineer, Eden hyung, and the audio team, there was talk about whether to do hand-sync or not. I said, “If I have to hand-sync, I’d rather not do it.” I didn’t want to do that. Even if there was risk, I wanted to do it properly, because this concert isn’t just about me. They found a way to make it work, and now the concert setup is safe - as long as I don’t mess up. There are no technical issues; it’s just on me to execute correctly. Because there’s no hand-sync at all, sometimes the timing may be a little off. Still, one of my mottos as a singer is: “If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right.” So I want to do it properly.

So as it turns out... Diddy Kong Racing has some really badass reverb DSP effects that get applied to sounds emitted while driving within tunnels or enclosed spaces. SO WHAT ABOUT ON THE SEGA DREAMCAST? Well, check out this direct hardware capture, and listen very closely to what honking the horn sounds like as I drive through the tunnel! But we're already essentially emulating the N64's RSP coprocessor with DKR DC, which was handling audio tasks such as ADPCM decoding, mixing, resampling, and more... purely in software on the SH4. The SH4 is also responsible for all TnL on the Dreamcast, so it's doing graphics, gameplay, and now audio processing, PLUS DSP effects? And we're trying to hit a solid 30FPS target? How tf we planning to pull that one off? ...with GAINZ, of course! This one was pretty insane. The algorithm on the left is the actual fixed-precision loop which gets run by a DSP, essentially applying a function of some coefficients, a gain, and the value of the previous sample to the compute the value of the current sample. Since sample N depends on sample N - 1, the loop is fundamentally sequential, plus the values are all integer-based with fixed-precision, not acceleratable floats for our FPU... So check mate? We're fucked? I guess Bruce is gonna wind up dropping reverb to improve FPS after all? NOT SO FAST. As it turns out, I was able to still achieve a 1.5x speedup over the standard implementation, leveraging every trick I've ever known for the SH4's FPU with SH4ZAM vector math library. 1) All arithmetic and intermediate values went from integers to floats, so that they can use the SH4's FPU. 2) I was able to tease out the independent values and cofactors used for calculating FOUR samples at once by unrolling the loop to 4 iterations, and preloading the XMTRX 4x4 matrix back-bank with a lower-triangular transform matrix containing the cofactors. 3) I was able to cram 4 samples at a time into a 4D vector, which I then transform against the constant XMTRX cofactors with shz_xmtrx_transform_vec4(), which results in only single ASM instruction, FTRV, getting emitted to transform the 4D vector by the entire 4x4 XMTRX, thus doing the majority of the work to calculate 4 freaking output samples with ONE instruction. 4) I was able to strategically prefetch both the source and destination buffers while doing FPU work, in order to keep the caches fed. 5) The clamping... was the trickiest part. I had to calculate all 4 output values WITHOUT the clamping, then check for any required clamping post-transform.. but the problem is that if sample N gets clamped, then the value of sample N + 1 will change as well... and we just computed 4 nonclamped results in parallel... By abusing the goto statement and labels, I was able to efficiently jump to a label which would clamp all of the values following a component that was found to require clamping, but avoiding recomputing and reclamping the previously assessed values that were within the clamping threshold. The result? Yet again, the 200Mhz SH4 has carried another load that it was never intended to bear... and it looks like we WILL be keeping reverb in Diddy Kong Racing for the Sega Dreamcast! 💪

I did something kind of insane. I just spent millions of dollars on dirt. 231 acres, 45 minutes from my house in DFW. In this post: why I bought it, how I plan to make money on it, and exactly what I paid. Here's the story. A couple years ago my buddy Jeff bought a ranch. And ever since, I've been watching his boys drive out there. Move a bulldozer around. Drive a skid steer. Bring in the cows. Build a burn pile after the storm. I admired that. I feel so strongly that having your kids learn to work hard is one of the best things you can do as a parent. And it's also one of the hardest. I think they're correlated. The harder things you do as a parent are also the most important things you do as a parent. I have four kids. I want them to have opportunities I never had, and I don't want them to be soft. A ranch is the greatest hard work simulator ever invented. Fixing fence in the July heat. Feeding cows when it's 37 degrees. Hauling hay. That will change a kid. It'll build something in a kid that no app ever will. They say business isn't personal. It is personal. This was an emotional decision first. But I'm a capitalist and an entrepreneur, so here's the financial side: DFW is adding 150 to 200,000 people a year, growing north and east. This ranch is 57 miles from downtown Dallas, in the path of growth. Worst case, my family gets a ranch that we love. Best case, the Metroplex crawls to my fence line. We started out looking at 50 to 100 acre parcels. Then I realized something: one day I'll feel stupid for not buying more land at only $10K an acre this close to Dallas. So we went bigger. The ranch wasn't distressed. I still negotiated almost $400K off the list price. Here's how: I uploaded the seller's appraisal to Claude. It caught that their comps were 60 acre parcels and mine is 231, and bigger parcels are worth much less per acre. It picked also apart the whole appraisal, caught a bunch of other stuff, and wrote my negotiation replies. My $20 a month subscription saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars. Another hack: My wife got her real estate license, represented us herself, and gave back 2% of her commission at closing. $50K off. Then I shook the seller's hand and promised this never becomes a neighborhood or a data center. That handshake is one reason he picked me over the developers. Relationships matter. So how am I gonna make money on this? A few of the plays: - The previous owner keeps ranching it on a grazing lease with me. He keeps spraying, mowing, and maintaining the fences. I collect a check. - There's a 2,400 sq ft shop on the property, already rented out. Another check. - Grass-fed beef under the 888 brand. A quarter cow sells for about $1,500 at roughly 40% net margin. And you don't need to own land to do this. ButcherBox doesn't own a single ranch. - A YouTube channel documenting everything. If it gets to a fraction of my main channel's size, it covers the entire ranch payment. Zero ongoing expenses. - Farm stays and campsites. Right next door is a tiny home community doing $17,000 a month on 20 acres. I have 231. - Maybe an Airbnb over the river with a plexiglass floor. Septic near a river is tricky, but everything's figureoutable. - I’ll use my own dozer instead of hiring one. Companies charge $200 to $500 an hour. Used dozers go for $10 to $30K and I’ll hire young guys to operate them and expand the pond for much cheaper. - Ag exemption. Property taxes on a ranch this size would be $45 to $50K a year. Mine are about $1,500. I don't plan to flip this. I'm building a barndominium out there, then eventually a house. I plan to own it for the rest of my life, and hopefully my kids and grandkids after that. What did I pay? $2.35 million. My wife and I got married on 08/08/08. So this is 888 Ranch. *** Parodius Demo Update *** After seeing my good friend Pyron amazing Parodius artwork , I could not let that go to waste. Its a crying shame Konami's shooters did not make it to MD at the time , time to rectify that (in time). The video shows some of the progress so far. Stage 1 scrolling using the streaming scroller from lufthoheit to automatically manage the tile management for the scrolling rather than using different sets etc. Its great when I can grab bits of code and apply them to new projects, it speeds things up !! Lufthoheits new stage is coming along well also and has its first enemies in , hopefully show something of that soon. The VRAM view is to the right , we will have plenty of vram left for objects without resorting to much manual management it seems. ~ 1/2 vram left. It looks like the biggest challenge for this level is the Cat Ship mid boss - the end boss seems easier in comparison for a few reasons. I've analysed the way it was done on PCE and SNES and will come up with the best option for MD. More to come on that soon. At present we will target mainly assembly , so performance won't be an issue . I'm not sure we need a sprite multiplexor for > 80 sprites , but we will use one anyway just to not have regrets/changes later on and for the Hint color effects the multiplexor can do also. We have an A level musician volunteering also for those concerned about the audio side of things - it wont dissapoint I'm sure. I’ve spent 2 hours combing through over 160 charts. Here are 40 stock charts you need to watch in the next 5 days! The market is still consolidating, but the tone shifted a bit last week. SPX failed to break out and closed near the weekly lows. QQQ and semiconductors weakened. Software is trying to stabilize, while earnings from names like $TSLA, $GOOGL, $IBM, and $INTC will likely determine where we go next. Here’s the watchlist and recording (audio cuts out after 20 min): $SPX: SPX attempted to break above both the weekly high and the upper trend line but couldn’t hold it. Buyers ran out of momentum and sellers stepped in, leaving us with a weekly close near the lows. While that’s a short-term negative, the bigger trend hasn’t broken. We’re still trading inside a two-month triangle after a strong advance. 7400 remains the key level I’m watching. Lose that and 7235 becomes a realistic target. Recover 7500 and the 50-day moving average, and I’d start looking for another push higher. $QQQ: Tech had one of the weaker weeks. QQQ is now below the 9, 20 and 50-day moving averages, and those averages are beginning to roll over, which is an early warning sign that momentum is fading. I’d keep a close eye on 685. If that level fails, the next meaningful support doesn’t come in until around 640. $IWM: Small caps continue holding above the 50-day moving average, which is constructive relative to QQQ, but the chart is still trapped inside a broad range. Until we reclaim 300, I don’t see a high-conviction setup here. $IGV: Software has cooled off after being one of the stronger groups a few weeks ago. The ETF remains below the 200-day moving average and continues to struggle there. Some individual software names still look attractive, but I’d like to see IGV reclaim 95-96 before becoming more aggressive. $SMH: Semiconductors spent another week under pressure but did manage to defend the 555 area on Friday. This group is sitting at a very important inflection point. If buyers can build on Friday’s bounce, we could start seeing leadership return. If not, this pullback could continue. $BTC: Bitcoin continues drifting sideways without much conviction. It’s holding the 58K-60K region, but there’s still no catalyst or technical confirmation suggesting buyers are ready to take control. For now, it’s simply range-bound. $AAPL: Apple continues to be one of the strongest charts in the market. Three straight weekly gains have brought it right back to all-time highs after fully recovering from the post-WWDC weakness. It has quietly become one of the market leaders again. Above 335, I’d look for continuation toward 350-360. $MSFT: Microsoft briefly reclaimed the 50-day moving average before giving it back. The chart isn’t broken, but it hasn’t shown the same relative strength as Apple or Meta. 400 remains the level I’d like to see recovered before getting more constructive. $GOOGL: Google remains below its key moving averages after the Gemini-related headlines earlier in the week. Friday was a better session relative to the market, but the chart still needs time to repair itself before offering a clean long setup. $META: Buyers stepped in exactly where they needed to, defending both the 200-day moving average and prior support. That reversal keeps the chart constructive despite the recent volatility. Above 650-652, I think Meta has a good chance of working back toward the highs. $TSLA: Tesla continues to be one of the weaker mega caps heading into earnings. The price action has been choppy, momentum is fading, and the chart lacks a clear trend. Below 368 could accelerate another leg lower. For now, I’d rather wait for earnings than force a trade. $AMZN: Amazon briefly reclaimed the 50-day moving average before giving the move back. It’s another chart that’s trying to stabilize but hasn’t earned my confidence yet. A sustained move back above the 50-day would improve the outlook. $NFLX: Netflix sold off after earnings and is now sitting at an important long-term support area around 70. That’s the level that matters. If buyers can reclaim 70, and especially 75-76, this quickly turns into an attractive failed-breakdown setup with room to recover. $NVDA: Friday looked ugly initially, but buyers defended both the psychological 200 level and the 200-day moving average. That’s exactly where you want institutions stepping in. Above 207, I’d look for a move toward 214-215, and only above there does a run back toward the highs become realistic. $BROS: Quietly building one of the cleaner bull flags on my watchlist. Friday’s strength was encouraging, and above 70 I think this one has room for another continuation move. $BE: After an incredible run, BE has finally started pulling back into support. This isn’t a chart I’d chase, but it’s one I’d monitor closely. If buyers defend 195, it could become another attractive continuation setup. $USO: Energy benefited from renewed geopolitical headlines and has started improving technically. A move above 125.85, along with reclaiming the 50-day moving average, would strengthen the bullish case. $NBIS: One of those AI names that can reverse very quickly once buyers return. Friday’s recovery was encouraging after several weak sessions. It remains firmly on my watchlist. $NET: Software hasn’t completely fallen apart, and NET continues to be one of the stronger names in the group. I’m watching 280-282 closely. If software finds its footing again, this is one of the first names I’d expect to move. $PANW: PANW continues holding up well despite broader market weakness and has respected support remarkably well. Earnings aren’t until August, leaving plenty of room for institutions to accumulate. Above 368, I’d expect momentum to build toward 400. $DELL: Dell continues holding its post-earnings gap extremely well despite weakness across AI infrastructure. That tells me institutions still want exposure. Above 410 would likely restart the uptrend. $LLY: Healthcare remains one of the stronger areas of the market, and Lilly continues showing leadership. Above 1200, I’d expect another leg higher as buyers continue rotating into defensive growth. $CRWD: CrowdStrike has done a great job holding above 200 despite the broader volatility. That’s constructive. Above 210, I’d look for buyers to regain momentum. $BAC: Earnings are behind it, removing one layer of uncertainty. As long as 60 holds, I think another breakout attempt remains very possible. $MU: Memory continues weakening after an exceptional run. Momentum has clearly faded. Below 800, I’d expect another wave of selling before buyers become interested again. $AMD: Despite the recent pullback in semiconductors, AMD continues to hold up better than many peers. The 500 area becomes an important decision point early in the week. $V: Visa printed an inside day after a healthy advance. Those often resolve with expansion. Watching 365 closely. $MA: Very similar setup to Visa. Healthy consolidation after a strong move higher. Worth watching if financials regain momentum. $SNDK: After an incredible run, the correction has been significant. The chart still needs time, but 1275-1300 becomes an important area to watch for signs that sellers are finally exhausting themselves. $ALAB: Another AI leader that’s finally cooling off after months of strength. Nothing wrong with the longer-term story, but technically it needs more time before becoming attractive again. $SPCX: SpaceX continues trading below its IPO price and has steadily deteriorated technically. August earnings become the next meaningful catalyst. Until then, I’d rather let the chart prove itself. $HOOD: Robinhood has now lost both 100 and the 200-day moving average. That’s meaningful technical damage. I’d wait for buyers to reclaim those levels before becoming interested again. $ISRG: One of the cleaner downside setups on my list. A break below Friday’s low around 345 could trigger another leg lower. Overall theme: Last week’s failed breakout shifted the short-term tone more cautious, but the bigger picture hasn’t changed. SPX remains inside a two-month consolidation, and earnings will likely determine whether we finally resolve higher or break lower. Semiconductors are trying to stabilize after a difficult stretch, software is mixed, and Wednesday becomes the biggest day of earnings season so far with reports from $TSLA, $GOOGL, $IBM, and $NOW, followed by $INTC on Thursday. $AAPL, $NVDA, $META, $PANW, $NET, $LLY, and $BROS are some of my favorite charts going into next week.
