After a few hours Shaq is doing much better. If I know one thing about dogs it’s that if they are eating it’s a great sign. It’s been a big long stressful day for him but I’ll sleep in beside him tonight. Hopefully the first day of the rest...

Shaq went in for his operation today. It was a very dangerous procedure. All the big guy wanted as a street dog was a chance at life… (1/5) 🧵

The operation lasted 3 hours and took a huge amount out of Shaq. He was very scared, nervous and in pain despite all the drugs. He made it through the day though and came home this evening. You can see from the scar how much work had to be done (2/5)

We don’t have the luxury of 24 hour vets here. Getting the operation done was hard enough. He was still asleep when he came home. He is with me in Tina’s old bed. He was shaking, very cold and not looking great at first (3/5)

He was incredible restless and on the edge for 2-3 hours. I have him hidden in my spare room from Jumbo and Derek. Shaq has never been in a house before and it’s all new to him. He’s terrified as well as very sick. Very nerve wracking as I’m not a vet obviously 😅 (4/5)

This is very encouraging. I hope you both have a good night. Come on Shaq! 🙏 Won't it be grand when you have Tina's Hospital to provide care for these lovely doggos?

Oh it’ll make everything 100 times easier. The transport and recovery in different places etc is a nightmare

Absolutely heartwarming to hear that Shaq is on the mend. It's true, a good appetite often signals a strong spirit in dogs. The care you're showing by staying close to him through the night is exactly what sets a devoted companion apart from a mere owner. Shaq is lucky to have you! This boy has the best person beside him to help him pull through so he going to pull through!

He is very blessed to have you. I can understand him being scared because he goes to sleep in one place and wakes up somewhere else even though it's safe. He was probably quite disoriented and glad he settled in. I'm glad he's eating well and praying for a wonderful recovery. Yes, it's a good sign he's eating because that means he's able to swallow his tongue is doing its job. I look forward to the great updates about Shaq.

Shaq is back with us. I’m not meant to have favorites but he has always been one of mine. The hardest part is making the right decisions for the dogs on an ongoing basis… 🏀 We fixed him initially and it took 2 months and 3 operations. Hardly any vets would take on the operation and it was a case of nearly losing him. 🌴 He recovered well. I used to love spending time with him as we had such a deep bond during his recovery at Happy Doggo 🐕 Shaq was not suitable for adoption. He’s a street dog through and through. He was a bad around other other dogs and quite old. I thought long and hard about his options 🏡 We found him his safe place to live. Some locals would look out for him and he was in no danger. He had shelter, regular food and 2 other friends he knew. Shaq loved it there. 💊 I would call down to him every month with his meds and for a check up with some sausages. He has been doing great. ☔️ Recently with very damp weather and humid temperatures a lot of dogs have been getting skin issues. Shaq has some of the worst I’ve seen despite being ok 2 weeks ago when I last saw him. 🦠 Shaq has a bacterial and fungal infection. 🧑🏽‍⚕️ We’ve brought him in for a 2 week stay to get it all fixed up and all his blood work and other little bits fixed. It’s like a spa break for him. People were messaging me asking if I was angry he ended up like this. Not at all. Shaq is a street dog who has a great life but he just needs some medicines and care now. Just like any pet or other dog we look after. I always told Shaq we’d look after him no matter what so it’s nice to have him back for a little bit of pampering.
