CPI(M) West Bengal State Committee members Shatarup Ghosh and Mayukh Biswas, along with Cockroach Janta Party Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka and other senior leaders, visited the family of Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, who was brutally murdered by BJP goons in Karishunda village in the Indas area of Bankura district in West Bengal because his son, Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, had participated in the student-youth movement against the NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar and had raised the demand for better facilities in his village school. The CJP and the Left have given the BJP government in West Bengal a 10-day deadline: arrest all those involved in the brutal murder and invoke all necessary legal sections against them, including those who have not been named in the FIR; conduct a court-monitored probe into the role of police personnel at Indas police station; provide 24/7 security for the bereaved family; and take concrete steps to build an international-standard school named after martyr Mohammad Mafik. If the demands are not met, a gherao of the District Magistrate’s office will be launched, and the agitation demanding justice for Mohammad Mafik will be intensified.

Parveen Garg, a resident of Chandigarh, recorded a video before ending his life, in which he held his sister-in-law Kimmy, her mother Babita and father Sanjeev Kumar Singla responsible for his decision. He alleged that the three, along with Kimmy’s two sisters—Ankita of Noida and Aashima of Sangrur—and her younger brother living abroad, had continuously harassed, humiliated and troubled his family. He also denied allegations of dowry demands and claimed that a false FIR had been lodged against his elder brother. In the video, Garg alleged that his family had faced repeated harassment despite his mother taking care of Kimmy and fulfilling her demands. He further claimed that he was threatened in Chandigarh and was asked to arrange ₹60–70 lakh from his parents, with threats made against him and his family if the demand was not met. He also accused Kimmy’s family of boasting about their police and political connections and influence in Sangrur. Garg appealed to the government and judiciary to provide justice and ensure strict punishment for those he held responsible. After I shared a video in which TMC’s Sagardighi candidate Byron Biswas admitted that TMC candidates in Sagardighi, Farakka, Jangipur, and Shamsherganj are losing, he has now issued a threat, claiming he spoke “emotionally” and saying he will file a case against me. Notably, he has not denied his remarks even once or called the video fake. Now, watch this video. He is openly threatening the state police, using abusive and uncivil language, telling them they are agents of the state government and should not work for Delhi. He goes so far as to warn that if they act on the directions of the Election Commission of India, they will be thrown out of West Bengal and forced to live in Delhi. In a clear attempt at intimidation, he claims that since the police draw salaries from the state government, they must follow their (read TMC’s) instructions. This is unacceptable in a democracy. He goes so far as to warn that if they act on the directions of the Election Commission of India, they will be thrown out of West Bengal and forced to live in Delhi. In a clear attempt at intimidation, he claims that since the police draw salaries from the state government, they must follow their (read TMC’s) instructions. This is unacceptable in a democracy. I expect the West Bengal police across the state to act with neutrality and uphold the rule of law.
