After the floodwaters began to disappear, a man noticed a tiny creature swimming in a pool of water left behind. He gently picked it up, and the little bird immediately started crying out. I have watched Osprey pull fish out of the water thousands of times and it still completely blows my mind that this is even possible. This bird was so close I could feel it as it flew past. Look how it has the fish locked up in a cage of talons. Unreal!

A fox slipped into a chicken coop in the middle of the night and managed to grab the only hen inside. The owner was furious when he checked the security footage. In 2013, a girl named Peh Yan Heng was walking along the beach when she discovered a stranded octopus stuck on the shore. It was very weak and struggling to breathe. She gently picked up the octopus, carried it to deeper water, and released it back into the sea to save its life. Once the octopus was back in its familiar environment, instead of swimming away immediately, it turned back toward the girl’s feet. It slowly extended one of its tentacles, gently touching her leg or almost “hugging” her in a slow, deliberate motion as if saying thank you for saving it. Only after that did it swim off into the ocean. 💓

While filming at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, he recorded a scene that deviated from every "cute" nature documentary trope ever made. Herzog observed a colony of Adélie penguins heading toward the sea to feed. One penguin, however, stopped. It turned away from the water, away from the colony, and away from its food source. It began walking toward the vast, frozen interior of the continent, a journey of thousands of kilometers into certain death. The "Nihilist Penguin" became famous because of Herzog’s narration and his refusal to intervene. He asked the scientists if there was such a thing as "insanity" among penguins. The experts explained that even if they caught the bird and brought it back to the shore, it would simply turn around and head back toward the mountains.
