After watching this how can anyone with half a brain cell believe the narrative around Terry Taylor and the Red Rooster gimmick. "it was his fault the gimmick didn't get over. The gimmick would have made him a star had he embraced it."

Any gimmick could have gotten over if done right and any gimmick could have ended up in the trash heap if done wrong. Imagine Jake the snake coming to the ring sticking his tongue out like an actual snake and hissing at people. It would have flopped massively.

Imagine him in ECW, he’d get to come to the ring to Alice in Chains “Rooster” and be instantly over.

I mean a beefcake barber worked 🤷♂️

Could you imagine if the crowd actually latched onto this & made that sound all at once every week? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The questions to ask are: Would Curt Hennig have made this work? Would Terry Taylor have been over as Mr. Perfect?

Bruce tells the story that the "red rooster" was supposed to be more metaphoric like "the cock of the walk", if that was the case why didn't anybody tell him to not take it literally by imitating and calling like an actual rooster?

Bobby took him to the well, Terry refused to drink.

It actually could have somewhat worked if they did it properly because the original story was that Bobby Heenan gave him this stupid name as his manager to just humiliate him right? Like as a heel, he was just Terry Taylor with a stupid name. I don't remember him doing all the mannerisms as a heel. Once he went babyface, dumped Heenan but then KEPT the gimmick and they doubled, tripled down on it and started having him saying "cock a doodle doo" and added rooster noises to his music and all that... i mean, come on.... instant death

Terry Taylor was bland, is bland, will always be bland. He couldn't make a splash if you threw him in a lake.

Vince is an ass. He took all these great wrestlers and put them in dumb ass gimmicks. Not everything had to have a gimmick, just let them be wrestlers.

There was not a single person in the business at that time that was getting this gimmick over. Terry needed the paycheck so he did it. Unfortunately it killed his career. Also being part of the York foundation in WCW did him no favors either

Peak storytelling. That’s why WWE fanboys say.

100% a mean rib. Not sure who he pissed off in the WWF(at the time)

I guess I was the only person In the world that actually liked The red rooster gimmick.

I remember seeing a match of his on one i those home video vhs's as a kid, and with all the ridiculous gimmicks around the time, I just didn't get it at all. I guess maybe the narrative means he should have turned the volume up to 11 & gone full gobbledygooker or something

I don’t think any one ever liked him personally. Comes off that way from all the shoot interviews

His theme song was a banger.

“Get in there and be the best damn rooster you can be, pal”

lol I remember this caz I remember TT from UWF. I think he wouldve made a good heel with Dibiase , TT could do a rich douche bag I think🤷😄

What in the deep fried fuck is a flying chicken wing?

I don't think Dino Bravo as The Mountie would've worked as well as it did with Jacques. Sometimes the guy has a lot to do with it. One Man Gang switched to Akeem and I don't remember anyone not being as entertained or more so. But I was 10, hard to really say.

Who said that? Fucking Bruce Prichard? Of course he did

Part of the gimmick was his manager, Bobby Heenan, undermining him too. What a nonsense.

Every time I see this I actually think he was remarkably committed, quite the opposite of Bruce's spin.

I liked it when I was 4, and hey I'm still around, sometimes I think people forget that some segments or things are meant for kids like the Repo Man that was my favorite when I was little

The best part is they gave him to Heenan as a rib.

nobody will ever convince the me the red rooster Gimmick was entirely to Mock Ric Flair . the head bobbing and strutting 🤣

it would have been incredibly over if he didn’t do anything but make chicken noises and never cut a promo. Eventually he could have gotten a push where he’s hypnotized back into being a person

I think Bruce was expecting Terry to manifest an arrogant, cocky heel but, this is what happened...

Red Rooster, TL Hopper, Isaac Yankem, The Goon, so many dead end gimmicks that no matter the dedication to the character wouldn't draw a dime. I will always contend @RealDemoSmash was brilliant as Repo Man and went all in on it. It still wasn't going to be a headliner character

As a Memphis stan he wasn't great as Terry Taylor but nobody could pull that gimmick off

Let’s be honest a lot of people still bring up this gimmick imagine how it could have been remembered had he embraced it

Three decades too early. He could have been the mascot when the Cock got got the streaming rights.

Been watching WWF 88 when Terry Taylor is there pre-Rooster. He wasn’t convincing on the mic and he wasn’t great in the ring. He could barely use the Scorpion Deathlock. Rooster gimmick did him no favors but he didn’t do himself many either.

Right. No one believes that. That’s just wwe corporate propaganda. It might work today as since the loyal fans left kinda love ironic and silly wrestling. But it’s less than half the audience of the days of the Red Rooster.
