Oh boy is this a bad tweet. That’s not a safety. Apologize to the shitbag refs.

It’s forward progress. I think they ruled his forward progress was outside the end zone and I’m pretty sure you cant challenge forward progress. I actually think they got it right.

The Seahawks made contact before the end zone and therefore he will get the benefit of stopping forward progress there. Would have been a waste of a challenge, refs had it right and saved him a challenge.

I fear you do not know the rule. Forward progress was outside the end zone and forward progress can’t be challenged.

People arguing forward progress explain to me how a QB running backwards trying to escape is considered fowards progress? Especially since the play+ball is still live and can be thrown despite the contact.

That’s just forward progress Jim

Forward progress is where you first get touched

Not a safety, bro. Tackle starts outside the end zone. He gets forward progress. Two officials in position to clearly see that's what happened. This is not a safety and it's not even close to a controversial call.

In this case the ball is spotted where it was when the defender made contact.

Contact was initiated outside the end zone, declares forward progress. Although strouds knee goes down in the end zone, the tackle starts at the 1. Refs got it right

You do not know ball. My 4th grader understands forward progress. I think I just realized you're playing dumb on purpose to get engagement and I am falling for it. I am but a weak man.....

It’s not where the knee goes down, he was contacted before the goal line. It’s a forward progress situation.

Forward progress is an important factor with safeties. Wherever the defender initially engaged him is where he's going to be marked down. Forward progress is not a challengeable event by rule.

Clear safety if you dont understand the rules at all, sure… Wouldve been a lost challenge & burned timeout

In Jim’s NFL the QB gets picked up and carried into the end zone as many times as possible

Do you guys understand forward progress? This has been a rule for as long as I can remember.

Did some additional digging--cuz I'm a world-class time waster--and here's what I believe to be the situation: Comes down to--and this is a rules-driven argument, which sometimes differs from what the refs do--go figure--but comes down to whether Stroud was "driven" backward or whether Nwosu's initial contact was "minimal" thus making Stroud's retreat "voluntary." If minimal (Rule 7, Sec. 2), then it's Stroud's own momentum that carries him into the end zone--safety. If he was "driven" backward (Rule 3, Sec.12), then it's no safety, and the ball placed where the "restraint" occurred. If ref rules "minimal" = not driven back = voluntary = safety. If ref rules "significant" = driven back = involuntary = down where the restraint occurred. Looking at the replay, looks to me like it was Stroud's own direction/momentum (backwards, toward his own goal NOT forward) that carried him into the end zone. Although, can't really call Nwosu's contact 'minimal' either, cuz he caused Stroud to fall further in the direction he was already moving--toward the end zone. Below is a table, citing relevant rules and sections. And, because it's always good to stir the pot 😉I will also add that the catch by Seattle against Green Bay in the end zone (with the replacement refs) many years ago WAS a catch, because the tie goes to the receiver! Let'er rip! Go Hawks!

I agree but…They made up for it with the blatant no offsides call at the end of the game for the Seattle win

Contact started outside of the end zone making forward progress the 1 yard line. Please don’t talk about football If you don’t know about football …….

Is this a serious account? No joke. Have you ever studied the game of football, or even watched it aside from a clip here and there? How on earth are you a supposed expert on football when you have to have the term "forward progress" explained to you?

The tackle started on the other side of the line meaning forward progress so down at the 1 is the right call. Refs suck but this wasn’t a bad call sorry Jim.

How much evidence do we need that this league is now complete bullshit? Do you know how much a safety pays in sports gambling, and how much money the league gets from them advertising AND paying for their data to set spreads?
