AI coding isn't about writing code faster. it's about designing a workflow where your agent can reliably ship the code for you. Matt Pocock's full workshop breaks down the entire process : • 00:14 - The thesis of AI engineering • 00:12:45 - Research and prototype ambiguous requirements •... show more

@DamiDefi nailed it. It’s not just about speed, it's designing that reliable process. Found this out while building my own thing.

Thin slices make failures local, which makes autonomous coding much easier to trust

What's the exact method shown for converting research into agent-ready prototypes?

reliably is doing a lot of work in that sentence

yeah agents only work when the structure’s already there tbh

Splitting work into small pieces before agents start coding is the way to go.

Exactly—the product isn’t typing speed. It’s a workflow an agent can finish without you midwifing every step: research, constraints, tests, and a clear done state. That’s the layer most “AI coding” posts skip

我在后端落地 coding agent 后,最缺的不是会不会写代码,而是能不能把约束写进 repo:边界、观测、回滚、验收命令。否则 agent 只是把 PR 速度提上去,故障定位还是人工扛。

the reliability part is almost always context, not the model. agent that knows the actual repo ships clean diffs. agent guessing from a stale prompt doesn't.

How to remove outdated knowledge from the workflow?

The workflow is the moat

The workflow is the product. Reliable coding agents need explicit specs, narrow tasks, executable checks, and short feedback loops. Without those, autonomy mostly scales the cost of ambiguity.

Everyone optimizes the prompt. Nobody optimizes what happens when the agent is confidently wrong.

Matt Pocock is right. The real bottleneck isn't the LLM's reasoning, it's your API latency and error handling logic that makes it ship garbage 14% of the time until you fix the guardrails.

That sequence is the practical difference: a PRD and vertical slice give the agent a bounded problem, while tests and review turn generated code into an engineering loop instead of a demo.

The shift from writing code to building reliable systems is the real challenge ahead.

Speed is the cheap win. The hard part is designing the agent loop so a bad tool call is recoverable and you still ship.

@DamiDefi The PRD step is the one people skip when they get excited about agents. Vague brief straight to agent just moves the ambiguity into the code instead of removing it. #ProductManagement #AIProduct

Yeah, workflow is the whole thing. Most of it is boundaries though: what the agent can touch, what needs sign-off, how you undo it. Tests are just the cheapest place that check runs

The workflow matters more than raw coding speed here

Workflow makes a lot of difference fr

Agents need structure to really shine

Solid setup is very important
