I think AI taking over actually will be a good thing. I see no other way out than those with power giving UBI to people. That, mass surveillance and robots everywhere enforcing the laws will likely increase stability in the long run. The most risky move for those with power is to get too many people desperate and angry, fighting for their lives, at the same time. A scenario with Terminator robots everywhere would risk the lives of those with power too. People adapt very fast to the new conditions. They will likely give you UBI and convince you that you should be grateful for the free money. Much like people tell the ones living unemployed on welfare, like me, to shut the fuck up, and be grateful, if we complain on the system. We got no leverage, no gravitas, no power to change very much. One year you do work for the city. The second year they kick you out, and you’re happy because it feels like a vacation. After some time you can become a bit depressed, because now you have to find meaning and do something to justify your existence to yourself and to others. And at the final stage, you find a balanced state, where you accept a new lifestyle. My guess is that they will phase out the jobs slowly, because that creates the narrative that your either a person who works and earn your money, or you’re one of the majority of ”useless eaters” who get told to be grateful and accept what is. The thing is that we got Netflix, Spotify, Youtube, Steam, Xbox Game Pass and whatever. There is eternal entertainment and distraction, and unlike the empires that collapsed in history, robots will make up the whole system. It doesn’t surprise me if there will be like more than ten humanoid robots on the streets for every single human on the planet within fifty years from now. Maybe it will happen sooner, maybe later, but it seems to be inevitable now, especially since we are facing a population collapse with too many old people and too few people who work.
