Software stocks are dropping like AI will delete the whole industry. But the reality is that AI is a feature shift, not a software extinction event. Some weak “nice-to-have” tools will get disrupted. But the platforms with real workflows, distribution, and switching costs won’t disappear, they’ll use AI to get stronger. Most of this selloff is fear + multiple compression, not “software is dead”.

Except, If the calculator costs $99/yr subscription it’ll make a new calculator to use for free. Stock market is looking at these SaaS biz models and saying, your model is broken and the new model trades at half the multiple, if you manage to survive. Good luck.

The issue is that most of these companies sold their software for really simple use cases and the handcuffs of the license can now be replaced with AI written apps that do these same simple use cases

He's talking about software in general. Doesn't mean, that everyone will make it. Let*s be honest: Most won't make it.

AI is here to replace humans, but not to rewrite basic software (at least in the mid-term). There is so much clever and very specialized software that it does not make sense to reinvent it. Maybe eventually in decades yes, but not now.

But AI doesn't care about UI or learning moats... When app is needed , AI will find the cheapest and as good solution? How do U build software to attract AI tool calls- will LLM coys charge for showing AI apps it's "allowed" to run?

AI won’t replace process automation. It will improve it by being integrated within workflow. AI won’t replace collaboration. It will orchestrate it. AI wont replace software. It will integrate with it.
