Alaska is not a real place
34 Yorum

This is how all of America used to be :/ You could just do things and nobody bothered you and it was wild and fun

Still merged and yielded to traffic better than most car drivers these days.

Most of us have forgotten what freedom really looks like

And there's even odds the dude flying it doesn't have a license. And/or is 13. Honestly, if it wasn't so cold I'd live there in a heartbeat.

In the early 2000s I locked my keys in my car while camping off a highway in a rural spot, no one else there. Using a calling card and a pay phone I called AAA. They sent a key via a plane like this. Landed on the highway in front me, gave me a key and took off.

It's a STOL pane, Short Take Off and Landing, super common in Alaska. The competitions for these planes are really cool, taking off and landing in like a 30 ft area, and the guys that fly are them are straight up cowboys.

Lots of people in rural Alaska have little seaplanes because it’s cheaper to fly into town for groceries than drive ten hours

Long stretches of the American highway system are long and flat in case of emergency landings for airliners. But anyway yeah Alaska fucks. Went with the boys in 2021, brought some bush guns and asked the locals where we can shoot and they just pointed out some car dumping spot in the mountains. Most perfect shooting hole ever conceived.

A glimpse at an old America

I saw fairies there once.

Oh it’s real friend…very real

This is in Susitna. It’s common to see planes taxiing on roads. Or crossing. Or taking off on a beach…

Captain Wild Bill Kelso. Got back some of that scrap we sold to the japs!

@W4d3101 Hey honey I'm gonna fly into town for a big mac, you want anything?

@masonbo I love it here

Freedom!!

I didn’t know they could take off with such minimal runway. Man I want to fly a fucking plane … so bad.

@ChuckDriver Small plane culture in Alaska is interesting and unusual. Compares somewhat to island seaplane culture. It makes complete sense, there.

This is normal and legal in most of Alaska. One reason why we gotta go fly there someday!

Denali Brewing Company is just ~15 miles up the road from here. Great stretch of the country

Looks like about at 61.9893851, -150.0295664 I've driven around there. People just do things.

What's the problem? He signaled, I'm sure.

@stevensongs I’ve had many very vivid dreams of me doing this exact thing. Alaska is a dream.

That’s Sheep Creek Lodge parking lot it exited. Great food and atmosphere.

@JesseKellyDC Just another day in the 907

I've never seen anyone do this in traffic, but there are seaplanes that do this every summer on the lakes by me.

@JesseKellyDC Using that “you fly I’ll buy” flex

Bush Planes are mass transit in AK

yes it is. I used to live about 15 miles from there. by road. 7 miles by air.

Looks like a scene from Far Cry

@JesseKellyDC Watch The Last Frontier on Apple. It’s real.

That was just J.J. McClure and Victor stopping for a 6 pack

This used to happen many places in the US, when we were a real country.

A friend of mine from college was a single engine pilot in Alaska. Crashed on takeoff, permanent brain damage, some of his passengers didn't survive. Very dangerous stuff.
