Alberta has the resources, population and fiscal capacity to govern itself, and, with disciplined negotiations and competent management, could become considerably more prosperous over time. The U of C report does not disprove that case. It confirms it while attaching what many will perceive as a more accurate price tag. I'll quote exactly from its concluding paragraph: “There is certainly a scenario where Alberta’s economy and finances could be better after separation, once a transition period is over.”

The "research" is the sloppiest I've ever seen from a federalist publication. They used Ottawa's total numbers and divided it per capita. This resulted in almost quadrupling the estimated needed cost of federal programs in AB compared to current spending there. They argued Alberta recieving their portion of the federal debt is a cost of separation, ignoring how AB pays for a higher share of it now within confederation. They almost completely forgot to calculate the current net loss of Albertans going to ottawa, only listing it at 4bil, which is more than 10x smaller than the reality. Do I need to go on? This is blatant propaganda, deception on purpose, thats the take away. It's pathetic.

i would challenge these number soley in the basis that once all outside influence is out politically , the flood gates of cash will come pouring into alberta .. it’s not theory , it’s fact .. what I find when you still have a hard time reconciling is that businesses didn’t flee Alberta because of the provincial government, they fled because the federal government had suffocated Alberta so much with regulation, BS policies, and tax burden that it was no longer profitable enough for them to continue residing in Alberta… What’s the most regrettable about a lot of it is that many never saw it and I mean really saw it… The amount of vacant space that is in downtown Calgary alone would blow a lot of peoples minds. There are 30 and 40 story skyscrapers in downtown Calgary that are barely occupied, that’s how much business left Calgary alone…. But if you didn’t work in an industry that got to see it firsthand, it’s very hard for people to conceptualize it… yes, a lot of that was oil and gas, but like any major resource like that it also has a trickle down effect into other corporations, businesses, small, and midsize that either went into receivership or simply moved…. With the Alberta provincial government having his handcuffs off federally, like I mentioned above, it opens the floodgate for imports and exports in a way most people can’t fathom…. Alberta doesn’t need British Columbia and it doesn’t need Saskatchewan in at least it can ship all of its stuff directly south of the border and you can cut across right to the west through Washington state, not a problem….. The other point I want to bring up as I don’t think people understand how many compressor stations in southern Alberta, kissing the BC border that have been decommissioned that can be very easily revitalized… The amount of business it can drive to rejuvenate communities is unfathomable… Would there be some hurdles in the beginning, of course there’s going to be that’s to be expected but when Alberta doesn’t have to ship transfer payments to the federal government anymore, that freezes a billions of dollars every year for them to fast, track processes, and get things to play… And I would feel very certain that the amount of people that would flock from across Canada to move to Alberta would blow a lot of Canadian minds…. Especially Ontario… Look at the dumpster fire mess. Ontario was in right now… People are trying to put a red flag on Alberta separating, look at the amount of industry that has been sandbagged by provincial and federal political decisions or luck there of… Ontario is about to buckle to its knees and it has nothing to do with Donald Trump. It has everything to do with the leadership of Canada.

It’s a risk I’m willing to take. Canada is most definitely headed in the wrong direction. The liberals and Carney are running a dictatorship! We’ve seen what’s happening the last few weeks, all decisions made without Canadian voices being heard. HARD PASS!
