Breaking… Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces the use of the Alberta Sovereignty Act to prevent the Liberal energy emissions and production cap from coming into effect in Alberta. After the motion passes the following will occur: 1) an immediate Constitutional challenge 2) a ban on provincial bodies enforcing the cap 3) labelling oil and gas production facilities as essential infrastructure, subject to the Alberta Critical Infrastructure Defence Act 4) prohibiting the entry of all individuals into these facilities, except those licensed to enter by the Alberta government 5) declaring all information related to “greenhouse gases” at these facilities to be owned by Alberta’s government, with data disclosed or reported at its discretion Smith: “We will defend Alberta’s prosperity, Alberta’s livelihood and our energy industry.” In my opinion it’s time to fully stop messing around with Ottawa’s idiocy. Alberta should continue to use the Alberta Sovereignty Act whenever necessary to block the harmful plans of the Trudeau Liberal regime.

We’re aware of Danielle Smith’s plan to release a parental rights policy this week. I want to be clear: The Alberta NDP will do everything we can to ensure these targeted children are protected. The timing of this announcement, days after Alberta learned of Caidence’s heartbreaking story, seems particularly cruel. While the news was reporting that 12-year-old Caidence had nearly lost her chance for a life-saving kidney transplant because of staffing shortages at the Stollery, Smith was sharing a stage and smiling in photo ops with Tucker Carlson after he spouted racist, homophobic rhetoric in Calgary. Rather than throwing their efforts, their time, and their resources towards solving the dangerous situation Alberta children are facing in our health care system, it appears the UCP is trying to gain points with their base by engaging in dog whistle politics. Yesterday, Smith said, we should “think about the kids who are listening to us as adults talking about these issues that are impacting them.” The kids *are* listening, Danielle. You’re being loud and clear.

The Conservative Party has an Alberta problem — a big one It's not because Alberta has abandoned the Conservatives, but because Alberta's Conservative voters might be outgrowing Ottawa, and we have the poll numbers to prove it. A new @ActForAlberta poll shows something remarkable: 66% of Conservative Party of Canada supporters in Alberta support independence; 51% strongly support it. Another 15% somewhat support it. That is not a fringe. That is not a handful of angry keyboard warriors. That is the federal Conservatives' Western engine room looking at Confederation and saying: maybe this deal is done. And that explains something important about the way Pierre Poilievre and the federal Conservatives talk about Alberta independence. They oppose it, of course. They have to. The Conservative Party of Canada cannot win without Alberta. Take Alberta out of Confederation and the CPC loses its safest seats, its donor base, its volunteer army, and its moral claim to represent Western Canada. Without Alberta, there may never be another Conservative government in Ottawa again. So yes, they are against independence. But notice what they are not doing.
