I’ve visited countless schools, I know Alberta teachers work hard. Our offer hires 3,000 new teachers and provides a 12 percent raise, over 4 years, giving them the highest take home pay in western Canada, so students get better access to their teachers and greater support in class. Alberta is stepping up for teachers and students. Our offer adds 3,000 new teachers in the classrooms and puts a 12 percent salary increase on the table, giving about 95 percent of teachers more pay. A typical Alberta teacher would lead western Canada in regards to salary. We have also committed $1 billion for boards to hire more teachers or education assistants to reduce class sizes, plus an $8.6 billion school build program to add the space families need. This is a generous, ready to deliver plan that puts help into classrooms now. We invite the ATA to work with us so students, parents, and teachers see these benefits this year.

Today we announce Bill 2: the Back to School Act. If passed, this bill will put student learning first, ensure our children return to the classroom on Wednesday, October 29th and legislate a fair reasonable collective bargaining agreement for Alberta teachers. Teachers at Connaught School for Girls have been striking on and off for 12 years, originally over pay and conditions, but parents say it is now unclear what the teachers actually want. San Francisco residents will start to pay more for their water and sewer bills starting tomorrow Residents have had 6 increase in the past 5 heads and 2 more have been approved. This new increase is 23% and will cost the average family $500 more per year “The Public Utilities Commission approving a 23% hike over 2 years. That was back in April the 1st. A 10.5% increase starts tomorrow. Another 12.5% hike goes into effect next July. For an average family, that will be more than $500 extra a year.” There has been about 6 adjustments over 5 years with the new approval adding 2 more phased hikes With those new increases that’s about a 64% increase on their bills over this time

Update Education Ministry has issued a threat to teachers following my post about them not depositing pension funds. It's not clear who's talking but in this audio clip, they're saying teachers should shut their mouth on social media and they don't like teachers posting comments. Also, they are saying it's only 3 months of pension money, but it's been 4 months and 20 days since they last paid any pension money, soon to be 5 months, which is almost half a year. Education Ministry should be ashamed of themselves.

A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. The Free Trade deal with India has been announced. They’re claiming to have achieved just as good if not better trade access than our competitors - Australia, the UK etc, but have failed to achieve greater access for our dairy products. The concern is migration - the deal would establish a process for 1667 three-year work visas a year, focusing on doctors, nurses, teachers, ICT and engineering jobs, and 1000 places on New Zealand's Working Holiday Scheme. [For context, we’re currently bringing in over 100,000 immigrants per year.] NZ First is saying they will oppose the deal citing no access for dairy and the migration concessions.

Nearly half your property tax bill now goes to Edmonton as a transfer payment. Their take is up 57% in four years. Now they're demanding 21% more -- about $339 per household -- this year alone. By comparison, Edmontonians are being asked to pay $154 more. Let’s work together for a fair deal for Calgary.

Teacher in New Jersey says being a Sanctuary State is ruining their education system School Districts are raising taxes as much as 32%, eliminating middle school sports and cancelling busses to pick up students to fund educating illegals - English language learner enrollment increased 49.6% - In 2020 to 2021, they had to allocate another $5 million to expand the bilingual programs, including investments in their textbooks and smart boards - The following year, another $2.2 million was designated to hire 36 bilingual teachers and an additional $1.6 million was allocated to hire 26 English Second Language teachers - Then the following year, 2022-23, the district planned to fill 75 new positions specifically for bilingual and English as a second language - 2022-2023 they continued to hire support staff and teachers that were bilingual and included line items for tutoring and new instructional platforms - 2024-2025, an additional $4.2 million was allocated to expand bilingual programs across the schools, and another $3.9 million was designated to hire more teachers and aides and support partnerships with universities. Cumulatively, over the span of 5 years from 2020 to 2025, the Newark Public Schools and invested $16.9 million in ELL specific initiatives That includes direct allocations to program expansion and staffing, but it does not encompass the indirect costs like facilities, instructional materials, or administrative support - So last year a lot of districts opted for the option of raising their school tax 9.9% in order to get a little bit of their state funding back - Little Lake Harbor just voted to have their school tax increased 32% in order to make their budget whole - Tom River is looking at like a 12% tax increase - You have Bricktown is doing the same thing, 12% tax increase - They're getting rid of courtesy busing - They're eliminating middle school sports and then you have the ripple effect of these taxes will save the school for this year, this year only and residents can't afford it - So in Ocean County, you're looking at $17,000 per student - In Newark, it's $22,000 per illegal student “So these are actual numbers and things that are happening in education in New Jersey right now.”
