Canadians used to be stereotyped as polite, tolerant, and willing to hear people out. That stereotype is gone inside the Forever Canada movement. When Alberta independence supporters go out and talk to people, we are constantly being sworn at, insulted, mocked, and threatened. And the thing is, we do not do it back. We keep having polite conversations. We keep putting up signs. We keep asking questions. We keep making a rational case for Alberta’s future. You would think people who want us to stay in Canada would try to persuade us with kindness, respect, and a better argument. Instead, they are determined to prove our point. If Canada is so worth staying in, why are so many of its loudest defenders so angry, intolerant, and hostile toward Albertans who simply want a democratic choice? That is not how you win people back. That is how you push them further away. I support Alberta independence.

We’re not going to win people over by being nasty. When we walk around in public with Alberta flags, some people smile, some people ask questions, and yeah, some people give us the finger too. But that just rolls right off. All it really shows is bitterness. The Alberta independence movement should take the moral high ground. Be calm. Be kind. Be confident. Be open. That’s how you change minds. That’s how you make people feel safe enough to question the old narrative. Let the Forever Canadians fester in their poison if they want to. We’re building something better.

Outside Rogers Place before an Oilers game, I asked people about Alberta independence. One woman told me it was “the worst idea ever”… then walked away without wanting to talk. That moment says a lot about modern politics — ideas get dismissed without discussion. Meanwhile, governments build relationships with authoritarian regimes that don’t respect freedom or human rights, while risking our relationship with the United States, Alberta’s closest ally and largest trading partner. For the record, not everyone felt that way. During filming, others openly said they support Alberta independence — positive reactions just don’t always go viral. The conversation about Alberta’s future should be peaceful, open, and democratic.
