BS. I worked on and installed fuel pumps for years. That's an older pump and they all have a screw that holds that plastic in place. The nozzle spout pushes the flap up to stop the pump not the handle. Make sure it turns off before you leave. If not then you're stupid.

The pump shut off handle is pushed towards the top. This screw would do nothing towards interfering with the process. The pump is inserted inward.

No way that changes anything. Pump turns off when you place the handle back and it pushes the plate UP. Above the screw. This might keep it from turning on, but not off.

1. always get a receipt, if pump doesnt give one go inside and get it. 2. Always check the Pump, not just the return slot but especially where you pay for "readers" 3. See if someone is waiting for you to finish, if other pumps are open, dont leave for a few more minutes and double check everything.

This is bunk. The flap falling open isn't going to stop the transaction, the transaction ends when the nozzle is replaced. That screw there is probably because the pump flap was broken.

I know this is just here for the clicks, so enjoy…I’d think prepaying and paying at the pump would prevent this. You put the nozzle back, and either get your receipt or not…don’t leave without the receipt. So get your noses out of the phones and be aware of your surroundings.

All you have to do is wait until the pump asks you if you want a receipt after you’re done pumping. Then, say yes or no. Simple.

That's not how it works. It prevents the pump from being activated. When you return the pump, it pushes the lever back and resets it.

If you're stupid enough to walk away from a gas pump, ATM, POS card reader, he'll even a vending machine w/o making sure your transaction is closed and the machine re-set, you deserve to be scammed

I have always been paranoid enough I always watch the screen to ensure I am confident the pump has reset. It is only 1 second out of your life.

How do you not know when the transaction is completed? It’s concluded when the paddle is depressed, not when it comes back down. Otherwise people would be losing money just from the normal operation of the machine.

I don't get it, what is the screw stopping? The gas pump dispenser goes back in and pushes that flap all the way to end the transaction. (I myself push the flap in with my hand and finish pumping what's left in the hose to save a couple pennies when I'm just getting $20)

Easy way to check. After you fuel replace the handle fully in it's holder, then pull it out again and try to pump more gas into your vehicle. Common sense isn't so common any more
