On Wednesday, July 1, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a suspect entered the Community Banks of Colorado branch located at 7530 Grandview Avenue and announced, “This is a robbery.” The suspect also made statements indicating there could be guns and additional people involved. The Arvada Police Department's Drone First Responder (DFR) program quickly deployed a drone to the scene. The drone provided officers with real-time intelligence, allowing them to observe the suspect through the bank's front windows and entrance. This information enabled officers to safely establish a perimeter around the bank and wait for the suspect to exit, reducing the risk of a potential hostage situation. After receiving money from bank employees, the suspect moved toward the front door. Once the DFR pilot advised officers that the suspect was exiting the building, officers immediately contacted and arrested him without incident. The suspect was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Aggravated Robbery and is awaiting formal charges through the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The Arvada Police Department would like to commend the bank employees and patrons for remaining calm and composed during a frightening situation. Their actions, combined with the coordinated response of responding officers and the Drone First Responder team, helped bring the incident to a safe resolution.

Queens, New York — Police Officer Anthony Rock and his partner, Police Officer Brett Boller, were flagged down by the driver of a bus. The driver requested their assistance for a physical altercation that was occurring on the bus. As the officers approached the bus, the front door opened and 22-year-old Devin Spraggins exited. With their attention directed to Spraggins by civilian witnesses and the bus driver, the officers attempted to speak with him to investigate the incident on the bus. Spraggins, however, shoved Police Officer Boller and fled. The officers pursued Spraggins on foot. Police Officer Boller caught up with him and a physical struggle ensued. During the struggle with Police Officer Boller, Spraggins produced a firearm and discharged it, striking the officer in the right groin. Spraggins then pointed the firearm at Police Officer Boller before fleeing the scene on foot. Ballistic evidence recovered from the scene revealed that Spraggins discharged at least one SH0T from his firearm. As Spraggins fled the scene, he turned to Police Officer Rock and pointed the firearm in his direction. As a result, Police Officer Rock discharged two SH0TS from his service firearm. Spraggins was not struck by the gunfire and continued to flee the location on foot. Police Officer Boller was transported from the scene to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was treated for a wound to his right groin. Spraggins was subsequently apprehended without incident. For his actions, Spraggins was arrested and charged with Attempted M-rder in the First Degree (of a Police Officer), Attempted M-rder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (loaded firearm), Menacing a Police Officer, and related charges.

Victor Rivas, 40, was stopped by the Louisiana State Police for a suspected DWI after several reports of a reckless driver who ran into a concrete barrier and had blown a tire. Rivas fled the scene on foot and jumped off the freeway overpass and into a swamp. ALERT: Police deploy a drone to track down suspects who allegedly robbed 2 retail stores. Fresno Police received a call from Dick’s Sporting Goods that 2 suspects had stolen items from the store by concealing them in their clothes before taking off in a grey Honda Pilot. Police promptly launched the unnamed drone and were able to track down the car and follow it before officers arrived and stopped the vehicle. A 39-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were detained, and police later found out they had robbed a second Dick’s store earlier that morning. This is the first high-profile arrest attributed to Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto’s newly announced “Drone as First Responder” program. Both suspects now face grand theft charges.
