This implies that either the surolian qualar learned russian or russian is such an alien language that even aliens know it

Russian confirmed!

Aliens: One species, one language challenge failed. This is why we never get invaded

Chaos Wins!

Yeah I need more of that.

ABORT FAILED!

Say no more

I think this happens because its assumed an interstellar civilization would probably have one common language most individuals know, kind of like how English is considered the international business language

FINALLY SOMEONE FUCKING ADRESSES THIS SHIT ITS BOTHERED ME FOR YEARS THE ONLY TIMES WHERE THIS MAKES SENSE IS IF THE PLANET IS RULED BY A DICTATORSHIP EMPIRE THAT SUPRESSES OTHER CULTURES AND LANGUAGES, OTHER CULTURES AND SUBCULTURES EXIST MAN

Finally! More sci-fi from you please!

More chaos💥

my guess: You can assume that a species of Aliens, that conquered other worlds has unified their own species on their home planet and overcome nationalism, culture differences and so on allready on one way or another.

Kind of like how you have Desert Planets and Jungle Planets instead of planets with a variety of climate zones.

i always assume that just over the years they merged those things together. as most aliens seem to be around longer then Humans. but i know i have read some books that do split them at least in terms of cultures for different sections of a planet.

Carl: 'We've been speaking RUSSIAN this whole time?!' Aliens: brain.exe has stopped working No invasion today folks! 🤣

I agree, you are right, it's just a difficult thing to do, especially when you're worldbuilding.

Ahhh I knew this tweet would be useful

Bro was devastated that human isn't a language

To be fair I feel like if a species is going to get to the point of full blow space travel their home world would most likely be developed to the point of being fully unified first. Like if the entirety of Earth was on the same page getting to Mars for example would be easy.

It's so tiny! 🌎 <-- Alien was correct. 😎

Ok this is peak Just peak

One reason why even though I love Project Hail Mary, Rocky doesn't mention other forms of Eridians. It seems like they're all the same things as he is. Didn't the topic of religion come up between them since Grace's ship is called the 'Hail Mary '?

I’ve thought this too!!!

Would be interesting if, the more peace loving an alien species is, the more likely they are to all speak the same language. A species whose planetary culture revolves around working together would have one language to all communicate in. The more war-adjacent a species gets the

Babylon 5 had some of this. The Minbari had 3 castes.

Maybe aliens are smart enough not to divide themselves and fight each other.

I'm taking Notes to my Sci fi RPG

There's at least one HFY story Iremember reading that actually uses that as the main crux. Humanity is the only species in the universe that allowed such variety to exist... And the terrifying reality that implies about Monocultural civilizations.

"why do you have so many languages?" WE'RE BORED WE MAKE SHIT UP

Metanarratively speaking, there's a very simple reason: Nobody has the time to make 7-15 multicultural species on the scale of modern humanity.

reminds me a bit of Mars from Young Justice. The only thing missing from them is a diverse language system since they’re all telepathic

I'm thinking of Mass effect

This I what I’ve been trying to say for years!. So many science fiction writers are so lazy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

The Russian part was unexpected, well, I guess the joke with Russian is that all astronauts are required to know Russian.

Are we the aliens roasting each other or the aliens roasting us?

FINALLY SOMEONE BRING UP THIS PARADOXE ABOUT HOW LANGUAGES WORKS ON EARTH AND THE « ONE ALIEN SPECIES = ONE SPECIFIC LANGUAGE » SCIENCE FICTION CONCEPT

Maybe, by the time we have to worry about interstellar relations, we'll at least have a lingua franca for almost all humans. Hopefully it won't be Russian.

@Gabriel68MI I’d assume that it’s mostly cause by the time a civilization is traveling the stars they’ve all agreed on a single language to be the space language so we don’t have a 1000 different languages being spoken at every space port confusing everyone

you would love hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
