1) How accurate are/were the calculations for this model? 2) Does this also take into consideration the vast amounts of water found inside the Earth's crust?

It’s very misleading. Now do land down to sea level and see which ball is larger.

For comparison: the earth's surface area is 196 million square miles. There are 320 million cubic miles of water, or enough to cover the surface of the globe to a depth of 1.6 miles. There is a LOT of water on the planet, not a little.

looks small, but! - 2/3 of all earth is covered with water - 3.7km is the average depth of the oceans which means that all surface of the earth can be covered with ~ 2.4km of water.
