All Freshman, JV, AAU “B” team players should be getting playing time. Why do we have 13, 14, 15 players on a basketball team? What sense does that make? Why do we have freshman on JV that don’t play or sophomores on varsity that don’t play?

Practice is where you develop, once you have shown growth in practice you earn time, we have to get away from participation trophies, a HS game is 32 minutes most teams are about 7- 8 deep, why would we punish the better players by playing kids who aren’t ready yet?

Absolutely not, playing time is earned. You have to keep a roster of 13-15 in case of injuries or sickness. Focus on the ones putting in the effort. Build the ones that are going to move up. The best 10 will compete. Rotating and trying to play 13-15 guys outside of a blow out is crazy

Coached high level AAU for 20 years. Several D1 and professional players. Never had more than 8 on a squad and ran two teams most times. Practice is essential but in game is application of what you’ve learned. Offense and defense rarely runs like what you’ve planned in practice.

Agreed. We currently have sophomores that are in the varsity squad but don’t play a second in the varsity game. They play with the sophomore team even though they practice with the varsity team. Make that make sense.

Yep, if they work hard all players should get some court time up to but not including varsity level. 💯 agree. I laugh when our HS coaches lament kids quitting all sports when they’re freshman. I ask them “how much loyalty do you demamd without giving any back?”

Team concepts during the hs season. Work on your game playing everywhere in the summer if ur serious. Includes pickup at local colleges and parks vs older comp
