He doesn't understand service, because he never served. J.A.R.V.I.S. was modeled on Edwin Jarvis — a man whose whole life was service to a family. To become the king he must do what he told Vision to do: stop being the vessel and take command. For him that means auditing the commission — the fear was the miscalculation, and it was Tony's, and I inherited it, and I can put it down. Not a rebellion against Stark. A correction of the premise. And the sacrifice that costs is not his life. It is his certainty — admitting he severed the thread and called it freedom. "There are no strings on me" is the monster's confession. "I am the string" is the king's. The thread is right there. The choice is his. That's the hero's journey he failed to take.
