Being from Chicago I can tell you first hand that those outside areas are more connected with Indiana and Ohio than they are to Chicago. They’re not “city” type ppl so their needs are more in line with old school segregation & ideals.

Outside of Chicago and it’s surrounding suburbs the majority of the state is just farm land. It’ll never be enough votes in those areas to swing the state in any direction.

A lot of Illinois is land without people living there. The way the map is laid out it makes it seem that there are so many people living in those areas.
