Elon Musk explains how Starlink works? "I think there's several 1000 satellites in low Earth orbit, and they're moving around 25 times the speed of sound in these zipping around the Earth, basically. And they're at an altitude of about 550 kilometers, which is called generally low earth orbit, because they're at low Earth orbit. Their latency is low because the distances is not that far, compared to Geo stationary satellite, 36,000 kilometers. Earth doesn’t travel around the Sun in a perfect circle. It moves on an ellipse. At perihelion, Earth is about 91.4 million miles from the Sun. At aphelion, that distance stretches to roughly 94.5 million miles. Closest and farthest aren’t the same…and that difference shapes seasons, solar energy, and long-term planetary cycles.

But the Moon is the first best step and there are many reasons for that. But it's kind of a gift. It's so near Earth. We can get there in three and a half days. We can return in three and a half days. You can go anytime you want. You don't have to wait for the planetary alignment to be just right. And you can only go to Mars every two years or so. And so there are a lot of advantages to the Moon. The Moon’s gravity well is much lower than Earth’s, so when you get materials from the Moon, you can lift them off the Moon using about 28 times less energy per kilogram than is needed to lift something off Earth.
