Morales was barricaded in the home for hours while he fired on law enforcement. Deputy Randy Hoppert has been identified as the person Morales senselessly shot and killed during the gunfight. Hoppert was a Navy corpsman who served from 2010 to 2015 and joined the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 5, 2020. He was struck by gunfire and transported to Sierra View District Hospital, where he died at 11:57 a.m. Morales had allegedly ambushed the deputies, prompting a call for additional units. In his accident he had third degree burns over 80% of his body. He received a face transplant. He met his now wife on social media. Ironically she was a nurse for transplant patients. These two people were many to meet each other and it’s a great love story.
