I’m sure there are many reasons for this, but a key one is probably trying not to appear anti-competitive.

💪 Merica, we're taking it back. 💯 You like Trump, you know it, time to show it. ✅ T's for Trump here:

i feel like it’s because Samsung is the face of Android

That's counter intuitive but their message is clear: Their operating system is actually working on other devices Exactly the opposite of Apple if you think about it.

I think it's because despite Google's efforts, Samsung is still the face of Android for the masses.

People know and identify Galaxy phones more than Pixel, it's a worldwide brand.

Why does Google showcase Samsung? Because of Huawei. Huawei is starting to be the leader in phones and will over take Samsung on a non-US basis. H no longer uses Android and it is imperative in a device first world that Android stays the most relevant. They are the only brand in their quiver that can compete.

Isn't it obvious? If you demo a new feature on a Pixel phone, it's not always clear if it's Pixel exclusive or not. They use Samsung when they want to promote the Android ecosystem. Their biggest competitor is Apple, not other Android OEMS.
