Also for those who don’t know before a certain age kids don’t actually understand negative sentences. They listen specifically for the words they know. If you take two items they know the words to (let’s say pen and paper) and you say “show me the one that’s NOT the... paper” they’re more than likely gonna grab the paper. They can’t process “NOT” (negative sentences/negation) all they hear is paper this is why when you tell them things like “Don’t run” they run bc they heard run. Instead it’s suggested you redirect them with things like “Walk, please” The reason you’re getting frustrated with ya toddler is bc you’re approaching them as if they have your level of cognition they do not.show more

If you go back and watch carefully she starts pointing toward & has her eyes focused on the banana when she here’s the word not before the mom could say apple or banana. I think she just wanted the banana then heard the question.
