It would be better for NATO and Poland if Ukraine were in the Alliance, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said. Speaking at the Central and Eastern European Security Forum, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said Poland doesn't help Ukraine "solely out of romantic enthusiasm" and that the country's aid is very pragmatic, emphasizing that Ukraine is giving Europe time to better prepare for any threat. "This time is necessary, and we do not have a minute or an hour to waste. We will be held accountable for every minute of what we have done in this matter. All of us," he said. Today, I shared the most personal of stories publicly for the first time about my Mum’s impossible bind and lack of real choice in the late-stage of her terminal illness last year. I will let my speech, and her story, speak for itself here. This vote today was on whether we continue our work on this or not — not a final vote that would have seen this Bill come into law. I voted for the Bill to proceed for further consideration, like last time, but this was not the majority vote, this time. I’m disappointed that we cannot continue our consideration of this at this time, and then have been able to take a final view, like last time. I want to be clear that I fully respect and appreciate that there are different views on this issue. I’m grateful to every fellow resident who has been in touch to share theirs, and engaged with me and one another with care and consideration on this. My lived experience has made my belief in the principle of choice for terminally ill adults crystal clear. But regardless of my experience, my job is to be legislator. I would never vote for a Bill if I felt it were unsafe. Indeed, amendments of mine to the previous version of this Bill were accepted unanimously by MPs, with different viewpoints and from different political parties. I will always listen, and consider such decisions deeply. I hope that no matter whether we share the same view on the principle of this issue, this approach is welcome. It’s impossible for any two people to agree all of the time, but that’s doesn’t mean any of us have anything other than the best of intentions. I’m glad that I did what I could today to speak up for my Mum, and others with terminal illnesses who want to have choice over their life and their death. It was tough, but I know it’s what she would have wanted. The hardest part, though, is knowing that more people will now have to go through this same experience as my Mum, me, and my whole family, before this next comes back to the Commons - and I truly wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Samuel L. Jackson explains how he landed the role of Jules in Pulp Fiction, and what it was like seeing the film for the first time on the big screen: “Pulp Fiction and I came together in a very strange kind of way. I remember auditioning for Quentin for Reservoir Dogs in New York (for the role of of Detective Jim Holdaway, Mr. Orange’s police contact). And apparently I didn't get that role. But I was at Sundance the year that he screened it for the first time. I was sitting there and I watched that movie - I was awed by it. I mean, there were people running up the aisles when Michael Madsen was cutting the cop's ear off. People were going, "Oh my God, this is horrible!" All these “auteurs” were running out of the theatre. I was like, "This is good. This is happening. This is different." So after the film, I walked up to Quentin and said, "This film's amazing, man. It's great." And he looked at me and said, "Hey! How'd you like the guy who got your part?" And I was amazed that he even remembered who I was - but he remembered me. A year or so later, I got a phone call saying Quentin Tarantino wants to have dinner with you, because he'd seen Jungle Fever and he liked that Gator character. When we had dinner, we were sitting there talking. We started talking about Hong Kong films and cartoons and foreign movies and obscure things that we watched, horror movies. We found out we liked the same kind of stuff. And he told me he was writing this thing, and he was writing this part with me in mind. He was going to send it to me. I went off to do another film. I was in the backwoods of Virginia somewhere doing a film, and the script came. A little plain brown wrapper from Jersey Films. And Jersey's got these gangster images on the logo. And it said, "If you show this script to anybody, two guys named Ernie and Luigi will come and break both of your legs." Whatever. I went, "Yeah, right." So I sat down and read it. Boom. I read this thing. It's like, "Oh my God. This is awesome." And then I said to myself, "Nobody writes a script this good. There's no way that this script is as good as I thought it was." I closed it. I opened it again. I read it immediately. Okay. This is great - If whoever produces this film lets him shoot exactly what I just read, if they stay away from it, they don't try to edit any of this stuff out - this is going to be a great film. It's going to be kind of audience-specific, because I like that kind of stuff. I have friends that I knew would like it. It was a generational kind of film. I never thought it would cross over and do all this stuff. We shot it. We had a great time doing it. And the first time I actually saw the film was at the Cannes Film Festival. That night, it screened, and I was sitting there watching the film. The audience was loving this movie, loving it. About halfway through, I realized there were subtitles at the bottom of it. So I said, "Hey, these people are reading it, and they're getting it. This might be special. This really might be something special." And actually, by the time it was over, there were tears running down my face. I was just so pleased that I was part of that particular film… I never felt that satisfied, and that kind of full about a performance and about being part of something as I was in that particular moment.” Quote comes from an Interview with the American Film Institute 2010

We are very robust in how we’ve improved our candidate selection process. The very last portion of the batch is when the system started kicking them out. That was before 5 o’clock. We are not discussing here a lack of compliance on the part of the African National Congress with regards to meeting the deadline but a batch of names on the uploaded list that were kicked out. We are asking the IEC to consider for submission all those candidates who had already been captured in the IEC system but were kicked out. The second thing we are asking is to get to the bottom of why the very last batch was kicked out. We are asking for an investigation and this will get us to the bottom of the issue. This ties in with the question of are we fighting with the IEC? We are not. We respect and continue to have the full confidence in the integrity of the IEC run processes. "I wrote the Connor Storrie character as a Spanish-speaker originally - but we struggled finding an actor who was A) fluent in Spanish and B) had the fox-like quality I wanted. Connor’s self-tape was, of course, the most engaging - so when I found out he was fluent in French, it was an easy pivot to change the class to AP French. We showed up to set that day with our mighty/small crew, a big G&E truck, and a band of 15+ extras, and the teacher whose classroom we were shooting in asked, “I thought this was for a student film”. I came face to face with Ratko Mladić in 1993 and today am reflecting on that time. We were brought up in the era of never again, and again was happening in Europe and the West. Democracies were doing nothing to stop what was happening in Bosnia. His death reminds me not just of the disaster that befell the West and Europe throughout the 90s, but reminds us also, this is happening again. Russia is trying to do the same thing in Europe. And it reminds me that we, the journalists, did our jobs. We kept this horror in everybody's sight in technicolor live television at the end of the 20th century, so that nobody could say we didn't know. I am proud of all the journalists who covered these crimes in real time and didn't let the West turn away, and built the ledger of evidence and accountability.
