Nati don’t be misled by the rhetoric of Abiy & co. They are the ones that intentionally delayed the implementation & wanted us to kill each other. Whoever is seated at Mekelle wants to implement the Pretoria agreement except Abiy & his supporters. Two years on & nothing happened.

After the signing of the agreement between DRC and Rwanda, people have remained sceptical as many agreements have been signed in the past but failed to produce lasting peace. Even now, although the agreement has been signed, each party seems to have its own understanding of the agreement, and they are still disagreement about how to proceed. It is my view that both parties signed the agreement under pressure from Washington without truly coming to an agreement about how to proceed.

At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on 13 May focusing on East Africa and The Horn, Michelle Gavin of the Council on Foreign Relations cautioned against the fragile state of peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea, attributing it to the incomplete implementation of the Pretoria Agreement. She described the current state of the agreement as being in a “strange limbo.” Responding to a question from Senator Van Hollen on what “practical steps” the U.S. should take to “try to address the bubbling, almost boiling situation with respect to Ethiopia and Eritrea,” Michelle echoed concerns previously raised by Joshua Meservey of the Hudson Institute. Joshua had highlighted Eritrea’s continued presence inside Tigray in violation of the agreement. Both experts discussed the need for international pressure to ensure full implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, which brought an end to the brutal two-year war in the Tigray region. “This is something everybody’s already agreed to, but it has not been fully implemented. Kurdistan - PKK Today and right now the armed wing of the PKK, the HPG is holding a disarment ceremony in which around 30 soldiers and 2 high ranking commanders will officially lay down their arms and return to the PKK headquarters as non-combatants. Alongside the ceremony a speech will be given by these 2 high ranking commanders in which the peace process between Turkey and the PKK will be addressed. This event is an event to underline the PKK readiness to lay down arms and its commitment to the peace process. However the Kurdish community must remain cautious, this event serves the purpose of showing commitment, the real struggle of this peace process will be the process itself and the Turkish commitment to this process. Guarantees must be given by the Turkish government and the international community must be guarantors of this process and subsequently the agreement. We should not foolishly assume that with this ceremony, the process is done and that an agreement will follow easily. The process is still in its early stages and the PKK has taken the initiative with this event to show their willingness and determination should Turkey be genuine in their efforts to achieve a peace agreement.

Our message to those hateful Tigrayans who oppose reconciliation: Let's be clear. Eritrea did not commit genocide in Tigray. On the contrary, TPLF inflicted severe harm on Eritreans living in Ethiopia in 1998. They deported over 90 thousand wealthy Eritreans from all over Ethiopia inhumane way. For twenty years, they actively worked to undermine Eritrea's economy. The refugee camps established in Tigray were a political tactic, not a humanitarian effort, contributing to the tragic loss of Eritrean youth in the Mediterranean due to the TPLF's 'no peace, no war' stance. Following the 2018 peace agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia, TPLF fired dozens of rockets at Asmara. TPLF is the one that owes Eritrea an apology. Eritrea's current openness to peace is not out of necessity to defeat Abiy Ahmed. Eritrea is capable of defending itself against any enemy. The reality is that Tigray needs Eritrea more than the reverse. For over four years, Abiy Ahmed has weaponized aid against Tigray, and Eritrea cannot stand by while the Tigrayan people suffer. This reconciliation is not up to the Tigrayan and Eritrean diaspora, but rather up to the people of Tigray and Eritrea who witnessed the war firsthand and need its end. Period!!

I see many Tegaru rightfully pushing for peace and urging Tigrayan leadership not to go to war. This is completely understandable our people have endured unimaginable pain and suffering over the past few years. I fully support this campaign for peace. But what’s deeply frustrating is that this pressure seems entirely one-sided. While our community pleads for peace, the Ethiopian government is actively mobilizing its army and moving heavy military equipment toward Tigray. And yet, I don’t see the same energy or accountability being demanded from that side. The truth is, no matter how hard we push our leadership for peace, if the federal government decides to launch another invasion, there’s little we can do to stop it. The public on that side won’t resist they’ll likely support and even cheer it on. That’s exactly what happened on November 4: Tigrayans were calling for peace while being persecuted daily, and still, the war was unleashed upon us. Peace cannot be achieved through one-sided restraint. Both sides must be held accountable. Pushing only Tigray to stand down while ignoring federal aggression does not prevent war it enables it
