The 7 rules of gun safety: 1. Don’t let the government take your guns 2. Have fun 3. Treat every firearm like it’s loaded 4. Don’t muzzle something you wouldn’t destroy 5. Finger off trigger until ready 6. Be sure of your target what is beyond it 7. Don’t cut me off in traffic

Rule number 2 includes through obstacles like walls, ceilings, etc. This needs to be pointed out when discussing firearm safety. Rule number 1 basically means that you don't make exceptions to the other rules just because you think your firearm is unloaded.

Cannot stress this enough. I see people violate #3. It takes conscious awareness and good discipline to keep that finger off the trigger until you are ready. Be mindful of yourself AND those around you. Remind each other.

That was a great explanation. Could you have a man do it over, so we can take it seriously?

I am not a big fan of using my pinky finger to verify there is no round in the chamber. My alternative method is to visually verify with my flashlight that the chamber is empty and then shine the flashlight through the barrel from the muzzle to check for obstructions. Painless.
