Polite societies are incredible, being kind and empathetic is great. Its a bit of a cultural nest thats comfortable. You learn to move a certain way. Although this blinds you to all the other types of not so kind cultures. People raised in the west are naive to the cut throat nature of reality when there aren't enough resources or opportunities.

This story reminds me of the three surfers killed in Baja California in 2024 — the two Australian brothers and their American friend. Locals targeted them for their truck, shot them in the head, and dumped the bodies in a remote well they’d covered with boards. Another body was already down there when they found the three. That well probably wasn’t their only spot. These kinds of hidden places exist for a reason. If that guy had gone into the shanty with those black men, he’d almost certainly have ended up in whatever well or pit they keep for the tourists they rob and murder.
