It's just insane that the government can afford anything but paying people decent wages. War? Yes. Tax cuts for billionaires? Yes. Paying private health companies to fill NHS gaps? Yes. Bailing out bankrupt mega companies? Yes. Funding NHS? There is no money.

No, you are correct. For decades resident doctors ( junior) had been in the wind in the NHS. Resident doctors are in training doctors to be, years of specialising, imagine formative years for a child- a defining moment choosing their expertise after 6/7 years of intense training. Also, scapegoat for understaffed services and worked to the brim. System had oppressed their growth/development...Suicides rates amongst residents is very high; i suspect their ask is very much a reflection of work conditions, rather than enrichment...

In my lifetime, I grew up in a house paid for by my dad's job, my mum didn't work. I could walk to school safely on my own from junior school, it was about a mile. You could see a doctor the same day, and pensions were enough to live on. No one needed in work benefits.
