AMANPOUR: Putin invested everything in building his war machine, including people, whom he has to keep occupied. If this war ends, what is he going to do? Kind of momentum logic means he will keep doubling down. Whether he's losing or not, he has this system built just for...

VOLKER: Putin is losing in Ukraine, so the last thing he can afford to do is take on NATO. That's not going to happen. On the other hand, very limited incursion or land grab by Russia, something you could do in less than a day, just take something, stop, and see how NATO reacts. There, I do worry that you would probably have United States and many European countries saying, "Oh, well, phew, that's over. Let's not get into full-scale war with Russia. We need to de-escalate. There's no military solution. We gotta have negotiated diplomatic outcome." Those are the things you'll hear, and that's what would delight Putin because then he has just done one little thing and shown that Article 5 is not as clear as people make it sound, and then he can start playing games with that. So I hope that within NATO we keep up the messaging that we will not tolerate that, and we delegate the authority to the military to respond, so that our political leaders are not confronted with that "Do we escalate or not?" question. We should respond immediately and stop it right away.

President Zelenskyy on whether Russia might invade another European country in the near future: When you [Putin] have 1 million people on the battlefield, on the territory of other country which are dying. 32, 33 thousand per month, how you can explain for what [they are dying] if you don't have any victories? That's why I think he's afraid that his soldiers will come back home. Then, if he's [Putin] afraid, he needs a victory. What is a victory? Donbas? I'm not sure, and that's why I think it's occupation of Ukraine. Now on the battlefield, he can't do it. What to do? If you don't have victories here, if your victory only just chaos and terrorism by ballistic missiles, what to sell your nation? So he began to divide – first, to divide unanimity in Europe or Europe with the United States with the support, to decrease support to Ukraine if the support will decrease so he can push us. How to do this? How to divide unanimity in Europe if we built it? We didn't have it before the war, but we built it together. To attack somebody else? To attack and say, look, I will go further if you will not stop this? What he is doing now? By drones attacking Moldova, Romania, crossing borders of Poland, Germany airports, Nordic countries, so he will continue doing this. That's why the risk of offensive by drones, missiles, or land operation is very high against other countries who are bordering Russia or Belarus.

🚨 BREAKING: ABC just tried to grill Marco Rubio for the US giving Putin the "red carpet" and President Trump having a "warm handshake" - and Rubio was having NONE of it. "When I hear people say that, 'oh, it elevates him.' Well, all we do is talk about Putin all the time! All the media's done is talk about Putin all the time for last four, five years. That doesn't mean he's right about the war. That doesn't mean he's justified about the war. Put all that aside. It means you're not going to have a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. You're not going to end a war between Russia and Ukraine without dealing with Putin!" "That's that's just common sense. I shouldn't even have to say it! So people can say whatever they want. Ultimately, at the end of the day, we have to get the Russian side to agree to things that they don't want to agree to if we're going to have peace. If not, there'll just be a war." "They'll keep k*lling each other and life will go on in America and in the rest of the world, but not for Ukraine. So the president has invested a lot of time in trying to bring an end to this war. He deserves credit for doing that. He gets criticism for doing that. He could have just let this war go on. The president could have just said, 'this is Biden's war, it started under him, we'll do what we can for Ukraine, but we're going to focus on other things.' He could have easily said that. But he's the only leader in the world that got Putin to a meeting to talk about serious things."

Kaja Kallas: what we have to keep in mind is why countries want to be in NATO is because they don't want Russia to invade them. That's why Sweden and and Finland joined NATO, that's why the Baltic States joined NATO, to have this defense umbrella. if this is out of the question, then we need to see what are the security guarantees that are tangible. They can't be papers or promises, they have to be real troops, real capabilities, so that Ukraine is able to defend itself. We have to understand that Donbas is not Putin's end game.

BROWDER: Putin created narratives about things he’s upset with. He says, “I’m upset with NATO,” or “I’m upset with Nazis in Ukraine,” etc. And so we in the West say, “Well, maybe if we give him this or do that, or give him a little more of Ukraine, then he’ll calm down.” But it has nothing to do with what he wants. All he wants is to save his own skin. And to save his own skin, he needs to be in power. And to be in power, he needs this war. We’re almost negotiating with ourselves based on this fake stuff that Putin puts out there. And he has a reason to put it out there. Why does he put out this NATO and Nazi stuff? He puts it out for public consumption. Because Russian people need something to hang their hat on. They can’t just say, “We’re having a war for no reason.” They need a reason for the war. But that’s not the reason why Putin’s at war. It’s just a reason for public consumption.

Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg Keith Kellogg : "[The Russia-Ukraine war] is not a business deal. It's a war to finish. Putin has been the aggressor, and you need to apply pressure on Putin to do it. [President] Zelenskyy is a hard-ass, I've got it. He's a lot like President Trump. He's very direct, he's very hard, not in stature, but the way he is, and the way he operates, and the way he talks. But I've been in Ukraine, I've seen the people, I know what they're doing, I've been to the battlefront, I know what's happening out there. Great credit to the Ukrainians - what they have done in the last four years plus is astounding. They've basically taken and stopped the Russian war machine dead cold, and you've got to give them credit for that. And I think it's over time that Putin just has to realize he cannot win this war. He's not winning the war. He's not going to win the war."

President Stubb: I think you [Ukraine] are winning this war, and the reason I say this is that Putin has failed strategically. He wanted to make Ukraine Russian. It became European. He wanted to prevent the enlargement of NATO. He got Finland and Sweden. He wanted to keep our defense expenditure down, and it's now going up to 5%. Secondly, he's losing on the military front. When the war began, Russia acquired 12% of Ukrainian territory. That's 12 years ago. Since then, 8%. In the past two years, 1%. In December, Ukraine was able to kill 34,000 Russian soldiers. They were not able to recruit back. Just keep on what you're doing, and at the end of the day, you will prevail and win this war.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: "Russia is at an enormous pace reconstituting itself. They are producing at this moment, ammunition at a level which has not been seen in recent decades. They produce four times as much ammunition as the whole of NATO is producing as we speak. They're reconstituting their armies. Their whole economy is on a war footing. We have had open sources saying, from intelligence services, that by 2027 or by 2030 or by 2032 they might be able to be at such a level of strength that they could try something silly. What we have to do as NATO is to make sure that Putin knows that if he attacks now or in the near future, that our reaction will be devastating."

IGNATIUS: Putin is in corner. Things are not going well for him. What might he do to break out of this situation? His friend Trump is in the White House, and Europe is just beginning to rearm. Putin might think that now is the time to strike NATO. If he struck one of Baltic states and Trump did nothing, that would demonstrate to Europe and to the world that American promises to NATO aren't real. People are already beginning to suspect that, but this would make it clear. And Putin might seize this moment of uncertainty.

NEW: David Sacks says Democrats now support endless war, Zelensky wants the war to never end, and Joe Biden could have easily stopped the war in its first month by agreeing to the Istanbul Accords. "Zelensky basically says the war needs to go on forever. If the war is over, he loses power. He canceled elections there. If he stands for elections there, he's very unpopular, despite what the fake USAID polls say." "The Democrats have become the Party of forever war. Remember this was Joe Biden's war. He easily could have ended this war in the first month if he agreed to the Istanbul Accords, which said that all Ukraine had to do was stay neutral and basically agree not to become part of NATO. Biden said that was unacceptable, and that's why the war continued." "Then Biden said we have to support Ukraine in this war for as long as it takes as much as it takes, and that's what the Democrats are doing. They want to keep spending hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars. They want this to keep going and going, but that's not in the American interest." "What benefit are we getting out of all this money that we are sending to Ukraine? What benefits are the Ukrainians getting? Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are dying, and they're not winning this war. They're losing this war. What is so wrong with letting President Trump try to negotiate a peace deal?"

It's a democracy. They haven't had an election in a long time. It's losing a lot of people. I will say 82% of the people want to see a settlement be made. They're losing thousands and thousands of people a week. They want to see it ended. When do they have an election? Are they going to have an election? Garry Kasparov Garry Kasparov: If you listen to what Russian propaganda, Putin himself, and his entourage are saying, there are no signs that the war could end tomorrow. And we're not even talking about the end of the war, but about a ceasefire, because any cessation of hostilities means that Putin will have to decide what to do with the army. That's a million people - most of them drug addicts, murderers, people who are used to a completely different way of life. Bring them back to Russia? We see what happens when even a few thousand people return - a sharp rise in crime, the creation of wild tension in society. A million people? Never ever. That means Putin would have to look for other targets for war, most likely the Baltic states. The war will continue as long as Putin has the resources to continue it. Comment from me: this is spot-on. I've said multiple times that Putin is afraid of his soldiers returning home, so he needs them to keep fighting.

🇬🇧 NATO General Elviss: I would take the adversary, which is Russia, at face value. Vladimir Putin has always coveted Kyiv. He said as much, he invaded. He has said the same about other places. We have to be worst-case planners in the military. And certainly my friends in frontier nations, if I were to use that term, Sweden, Finland, Baltic states, they're really clear-eyed about what it means to them. Do I think Russia will be ready immediately on cessation of hostilities, which I hope happens soon, in Ukraine, to carry on conquest further West? No. Do I think they will? I think they've said they will. And do we need to be ready to deal with that threat? Absolutely. I couldn't put precise timeline on it because I think there will be race to reorient when the war in Ukraine ends. It's just race we can't afford to lose.
