I have an 8-inch diameter telescope, a Celestron C8, and the movement is solely due to atmospheric turbulence. The effect varies depending on the day, being more or less pronounced, and can even change from one minute or hour to the next ! And... Yes, you are an idiot!

Having spent some time looking at the moon through my telescope, the atmosphere really does have that effect, depending on the time of year it can be better or worse, it's the same looking at other planets

Moon is basically the wholes oldest clock. 28 day cycle, 13 cycles in a year...plus since its a hologram that can tilt it or whatever. Haven't you ever wondered how you can see moon the moon and the sun in the same sky if the earth is supposed to cast a shadow on the moon.

yes that is indeed the case. This can be reduced by properly warming up the telescope. My results with dobsonian 250/1250 Kepler and smartphone 🔽

The craters are moving due to the rotation of the earth. BTW, I have a nice telescope and see that effect often.

Uh....no.....the moon itself is orbiting, while Earth is rotating. That's why you see it moving.

I'm going out on a limb here, but my guess would be that the earth is rotating? The moon rotates, too, but at the perfect velocity to keep one face to earth. No one lied to you. You just lack comprehensive skills.

That's because it is turbulence. As you can easily tell at the eyepiece. The moons limb also shows this effect, worse on hot days and low to the horizon.

Transient Lunar Phenomena, it's been observed for a long time, the blue light in the Aristarchus crater is my favorite. Just one of the odd peculiarities of our moon, like it's perfect position for eclipses and the "ring like a bell" moment. The Moons rabbit hole is a deep one.

The atmosphere has quite a lot of substance to it. It’s why airplanes can fly, the engine in your car can run, and why most things that enter it from space burn up before hitting the ground. And yes it distorts light, especially at high magnification.

Openly says: shooting through a thin layer of clouds. So do water particles suddenly ot bend and refract light? Some of this stuff is getting out of hand. Zoom in to the building structures or catch craft & I may take it seriously. Shifting craters? FFS
