I'm surprised you didn't post who the youtuber is that made this content. He's been doing it for a few years since he retired, and his content is pretty decent. Anyway, you can find him here:

Generally good advice, but the 70s can be good to excellent years if you hit the gym and make good lifestyle decisions. I just climbed a hard 8200-ft. mountain at 69 (yup, I'm not 72 yet) but I shared a gondola with three Swiss men who were about 80. Every Wednesday they take the train/buses into the mountains and do a hike or climb. They were climbing the same mountain I was. It's not like a switch is thrown for men at 72; you're talking about average healthy longevity.

I'm 75 and am doing great. I'm very active and in good health. BTW, I don't trust anyone who tries to lecture me while wearing sunglasses.

I appreciate this. But what I see on the ground is that many men who do this end up dying in a short period after retiring. It’s as though there’s a cosmic ‘off’ switch. Especially with men who have been successful in their work life. I think this has to be coupled with also having a life of meaning, and some type of ‘work’ after retirement

Agreed. Thats why you have to plan for it.

I am 80. I am fine with no health concerns whatsoever, so there is, obviously, another demographic

Well, I am 77. I travel, ride a motor cycle, play guitar in a garage band, and work on things that interest me. I am unvaccinated, haven’t spent a night in a hospital since I was 3 and haven’t seen a doctor in 10 years. Your math needs some work.

Man, that’s impactful. I’ve been blessed with 69yrs 2months. I will keep this in mind! In the meantime, my son Liam is fully securities licensed and we’re working side by side like Warren and Charlie. This industry is fun again.

He's not wrong. My dad is 90, but he's had Parkinson's disease for 25 years, so his retirement hasn't exactly gone as he planned. I'm 66 and caring for my dad, so I hope there are at least a few good years for my wife and I to enjoy retirement that we saved for our entire lives.

Sure, you're not 100% of what you were at 25, but who is, even at the age of 30? So what? Life isn't over at 72. I'm 71 and healthy. I exercise daily, have a VO2 max of 48, don't drink and don't eat processed foods. I tend my Japanese garden, take care of my cat, and have a wonderful wife who I love. Bottom line, if you live as if life is over at 72, you are doing it wrong.

Now in my mid 60's and after a couple years recovering from a health issue I tell my friends the following when they can't decide if they should splurge on expenses that would make their lives more enjoyable in retirement... You only have a few good years left.

Agree. I retired at 58, now 73. Although a smaller SS monthly payment, I was able to enjoy it. Quality of life is all about your health.

This is 💯 correct. Most people don't spend enough in early retirement and then hit their 70's with more money than they know what to do with and regret for not having lived a fuller life in their 60's. We'll be tapping government benefits at 65 for this reason. Also heading to Japan again this winter while we can still fully enjoy it.

Retired at 61.5--traveled to a lot of different countries and at 73 am slowed down considerably due to prostate cancer--but--I enjoyed the hell out of my 12 years--do not make the mistake of saying--gee I should have done this or that--do it now!!--good luck

My wife and I built our retirement dream home at 65. The real estate agent who sold our prior house for us said “ you guys never do anything easy do ?”. That’s always been key for us then and now. Accepting and overcoming challenges. We spend every summer taking our grandkids 7-11 years old camping and boating. A new adventure every year. We make memories. My wife and I have been married since 20 so 47 years. We both had successful careers but we did wonder how it would be once the demands and purpose of our careers was now behind us. What has kept us going in addition to family is hobby interests. And both of allowing each other to continue to be our own person while still having common interests we both love and share. She has her craft room and I have my garage. She still cooks every day and takes care of the financials. I take care of the Big picture making sure everything is maintained and fixed when necessary, and overview of our retirement savings. A few weeks now from 68 years young for both of us. Health is a top priority as living the longest and able-bodied is goal #1. We’ve both learned the secret is to build a happy life and keep moving. Keep doing what you love to do and give back to others when you can.

This is BS. It's all about what you do before this time. If you take care of yourself, you should be physically independent into your 80's.

Disagree, I'm a month away from 72 and widowed. Had a job with pension and benefits / invested, joined a gym, have friends who know your worth and stimulate your mind with hobbies. Push yourself every day and listen to your body. Laugh at yourself and don't dwell on the negative.

60? ’Started to suck when I turned 40. Surfing=ruined b/c shoulder. Why do I have bones growing in my ear!? MTB is ruined b/c ankle and spine. Hiking is boring and hurts. Skateboarding… lol. 😵. Skiing and snowboarding are out. I got a sleep injury last week.

I do not live in order to retire. Retirement is not in my plans though I do have money saved should it come to that.

I'm 81, my wife is 76. We just got back from a cruise to Alaska and I'm going to ride my bike 10 miles before dark. I agree with some of what he says; there are more aches and pains and longer recovery time now. I have paced myself and lived a balanced life. Work some, save some, invest some, have some enjoyment. I like to hunt and fish and take care of myself. That's the Montana way. And, as Gus said in Lonesome Dove, I'm not ready for the rocking chair yet. I spend part of every day making sure our investments continue to provide what we need to live the life we want. We eat and live healthy. And we do recognize that our limitations will be more and more as we age.

31 Aug and I’m done, sort of. The bit I’m not done with yet is not so much for the money as it is longevity and helping out others.

That’s partially correct. You can greatly mitigate effects of aging by consistently exercising, eating and taking care of your emotional health. Two strong decades past 60 and even more is not unheard of provided conditions above.

This us why the guvmunt would like everyone to wait until age 70 to take their SS retirement .the dangling carrot is that you will get about an extra $200 to $300 per month by delaying. Reality is guvmunt is hoping you die before 70 so you get $0
