Amazon Freight driver didn't back up straight and hit our building. Got her CDL (Commercial Driver License) this year. Amazon sellers and everyone who shares the road with drivers like this deserve better.

As someone who occasionally backs-up to loading docks in a box truck, I don't think this is egregious. She was gently backing up, it wasn't like she rammed the building. She'll gets better with experience. Painted lines would definitely help.

Thanks, we will consider those.

@VladTheInflator have you considered painting lines on yout fucking docks? good lord

@VladTheInflator No. Should we actually do this? I don’t see lines at other warehouses.

@theophilus_cmpr @VladTheInflator I've seen quite a few that do. Not all, but quite a few do.

@Molson_Hart @VladTheInflator like almost all of them

When a company is too damn cheap to do this

Guide lines do make a huge difference.

Molson expects rookie drivers to hit his dock perfectly on a rainy day with no lines to guide the driver. Damn Amazon emirite?

don't they have rubber bumpers?

The building does but she came in at such an angle that she missed them and hit the building.

Put markings down already. Doesn't even have to be both sides and it can follow the expansion joint in the concrete.

Why the guy doesn't shout it's going wrong though

They give license to anyone

Do you have cameras permanently mounted over the dock? Seems useful.

Yes many

Would be fun to do a prediction market on how bad the parking job will be given driver and vehicle stats (demographics, time of licensure, how clean the truck is, owned vs fleet).

lol you do work in insurance

Indeed but race/sex/etc profiling drivers would be a war crime in the insurance industry and table stakes in an offshore prediction market.

No marijuana possession or drunk driving

I thought both of those got CDL pulled even when driving a car off duty. I guess it is up to the state. Simply “state of licensure” might be a major predictor given how CA/etc hand them out to illegals or TPS or whatever.

I dunno

@DOTRoadside I see nothing wrong here, except lines weren’t provided to ensure the trucks straight with the building. Plus it’s raining, so mirrors are likely wet. Mirror heaters help, but depending on how the rains hitting, the only do so much.

@VladTheInflator Come on, you must be new to the loading docks. 10+ year drivers whack buildings. I had a mixer driver almost knock over the plant; he was a long-time driver.

You could have guided her back. I don't feel sorry for you.

@VladTheInflator Paint the lines first, then come bitch about it on X after. I’ve been driving a semi for over 10 years and it’s kinda pain to back up with no lines especially if you tired and rookie driver.

In all fairness, it’s tough backup up a trailer without some sort of lines to guide you. Especially in the rain and for new drivers.

Shit happens

"Her"

Not saying it’s their responsibility but the person recording clearly saw this coming and chose to record it instead of prevent it.

We had this same issue 2 years ago. Amazon actually paid us without hassle...was 9k for a new door.

Lines would helps tremendously. Easiest way to back straight into a spot is to watch the lines in your mirrors.

I’m with amazon and these people get little to no training. I feel so bad for them

Backing into a dock in the rain is one of the hardest skills in the job, and federal entry-level training rules set no minimum behind-the-wheel hours. Rookies often get their first real dock practice on live loads. Better training fixes this, not shaming one new driver.

I've been told newer trucks have cameras that make this much easier than before. But that might not help if there's DUI or psychological issues involved.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say you haven't spent much time around blue collar work. This is nothing. This happens everyday about 10000 times.

I'm not gonna judge as this doesn't look agregiously bad and I'm sure it's harder than it looks. I've backed some open and enclosed 14-18 ft trailers and it's not easy. She was going slow and being safe imo.

The break going off so fast after parking that bad got me dying 💀

lol hahahaha

I was expecting much worse before I watched the video.

Backup camera. Amazon sells them for cheap. I mean...real cheap.

Happened to me. Driver said it was his first day 🤷

So no one go out and help or guide. Better to watch and film to get clicks on social media.

Definitely paint some lines.

Who ends up paying for the wall, Amazon or the carrier's insurance?

That really wasn't that bad lol. Get some bumpers.

But you STOOD there and video her hitting the building? Why didn't you STOP the incident from happening? Wait, I forgot your age group does this, instead of helping others. Put lines down. Keep an air horn can. Easily prevented!
