It is the start of a new week. There are many hurts and grievances. Many disappointments. Some explainable, others not. But in all things, we give thanks to God. We give thanks not because we are satisfied or happy with everything or everyone around us. Not because we have the answers to the many niggling questions that keep us awake at night. Not because we know the way. We give thanks because he gave us life. We are still here with a fighting chance, no matter how bleak it may seem. There's a reason we are still breathing and not on a cold morgue slab. That reason is the hope we cling on to. The faith we keep. The process we trust. He has kept us going for a reason. And for that we give thanks. Keep the faith. Pick yourself up. Your final chapter is not yet written. He has got us all. He NEVER fails! Shalom. 🦁🙏🏾

My cousins and my brother and I were exploring Coney Island, we saw the sights, hung out at the arcades and before we went back to the apartment we decided to go and get something to eat, we had some money on us but not much so we decided to see what we could get at one of the vendors. This was back in the early 90’s when most of them had dollar slices of pizza wherever we went. So we got 4 pieces of pizza, should have been $4 because that’s the price we were used to. The guy wanted to charge us $24 at $6 a slice. We argues with him because one of my cousins already took a bite being so hungry. But at the least we owed $4. We gave the other slices back and refused them but had to pay for the partially eaten one, it was embarrassing that an adult would try that on a bunch of kids. We told our uncle what happened and he went back and yelled at the vendor. He was familiar with them because he used to get slices all the time from the same guy and he never charged my uncle that price. I couldn’t imagine paying that exurban amount, like this guy who was being charged $54 for a hotdog by one of the vendors. At first he thought it was a typo and it was $5.40 but the vendor. Learned it up when he said no it was $54. Would you have paid that amount? I would have walked away, clearly he was trying to possibly scam a the man for looking like a tourist. Part of the experience when visiting a new area is the street food but it’s becoming more and more a chore avoiding places like this.

VIDEO: How we used religion to give Tinubu victory – El-Rufai The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he and some northern governors used religion as a political tool to give victory to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. According to the former governor, the decision to use religion as a political strategy was to help tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in the country. The former governor stated this in a viral video. He was speaking to an audience in the Hausa language in Kaduna at an event before handing over to his successor. He said, “Allah sees our heart, me and Zamfara State Governor, Mutawalle did it because of God and we didn’t do it because of anything. We only do it in order to have solutions to the current religious problem we are having in Nigeria and for us to give South West Muslims a sense of belonging to rule. And it is because of religion that we used that gave Asiwaju victory.” He also noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket that he used to achieve political success in Kaduna has now been replicated in Nigeria with the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president and Kashim Shetima as vice president. He said, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win an election. Even Peter Obi didn’t win.” He stated that he alongside other northern governors successfully pushed for the emergence of a Yoruba Muslim from the South West as president despite opposition from some quarters El Rufai speaking in Hausa said in part, “Concerning the Presidential government, what Professor Akintola said is true. We the Northern governors agreed that the presidential position should go back to the West. It was a verbal promise but a promise whether written or spoken, God knows. “When we saw some people plotting for presidential position to remain in the North, we disagreed, we are not like that. We said we are Muslims and we have our traditions and we cannot go back on our words. That was the first step. The second step is after we all agreed or they realised that they cannot do anything, we will tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in this country. The way the protests are now going I think it is robbery, people go out shopping. Wacha this one where you are eating ice cream and you are calling sijui who must go. Those days you would be arrested and detained without trial. It was not a Christmas party that we are seeing now.
