“America First”? That slogan didn’t start with workers, it started with the Klan and isolationists who looked the other way while fascism rose. Now it’s back, dressed up in red, white, and blue, selling the same old scam. They took their slogan and moved to the Republican party after the civil rights movement. “Liberation Day” for steelworkers? More like price hikes for everyone else. Tariffs don’t fill factories, they empty wallets. And while small towns struggle, the rich cash in on tax cuts and yacht upgrades from your Social Security checks, veteran's care and SNAP programs so kids don't go to bed hungry. This isn’t putting Americans first. It’s putting the past on repeat, and sticking the bill to the very people they claim to fight for.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s statement is a textbook example of how confidently someone can speak without understanding basic economics. “Liberation Day for steel workers”? That’s a nice slogan, but tariffs don’t magically refill factories, they raise prices on imported goods, increase costs for American manufacturers, and lead to job losses in industries that depend on steel and auto parts. We’ve been down this road before during the convicted felon’s first term, when his steel tariffs caused more economic harm than good, leading to higher costs for American businesses and minimal job gains in the targeted sectors. And let’s not pretend this is about “forgotten small towns”, most of those factories didn’t close because of low tariffs, but because of automation and corporate outsourcing, which no tweet or tariff is going to reverse. So no, this isn’t “economic independence”, it’s a shallow bumper sticker take from someone who clearly skipped Econ 101.

These tariffs will crush American workers through higher prices and a worse economy.

America First means putting American workers back in the driver’s seat—tariffs are a necessary shield against decades of globalist exploitation. The CHIPS Program Office under the Investment Accelerator proves targeted policies can revive manufacturing without surrendering to foreign dependencies. Empty factories? Not anymore. Strategic trade measures force competitors to respect U.S. industrial might while redirecting billions into domestic production. The alternative is surrendering key industries to China’s predatory practices, which the previous administration allowed to hollow out our heartland. Real economic independence starts with defending our workers, not outsourcing their futures.

How long does it take to build a new factory? How long does it take to restart a defunct factory? Where will they buy their equipment from?
